Oh man...that sucks!

toally understand how it happens though...good luck with the new job

Thanks guys for all of your input...

And TJ I totally agree/understand. My thoughts are a little all over the place so perhaps I should just settle down and relax.

My biggest issues are:

1) I am clobbering our shop with all of the parts and different aspects of this project. It is not fair to my shop mates and is also driving me nuts as well...

2) Realizing how much time it took/is taking to finish my white pickup again made me re-assess how much time and more $$ it will also take to finish this...

The problem is the truck is still largely a project at work including the body, it would be really hard for someone to resume where I stopped with much of the body in mid placement, such at the dash cut out.

The most unique characteristics right now are mostly the body itself and the custom work I did there. Before/if I ever sold it I would probably want to derust and galvanize the frame (or perhaps prime and paint) and probably de-rust and weldable-prime the body as well. This is probably something that will also need to be done sooner rather than later regardless because the truck sat outside for the winter, which allowed a little rust to enter a lot of the sweet welding I did etc... If I left it as is it could be terminal and/or hurt the body. I also need to do a lot of work to make it and some of the other parts sellable even if I parted it out such as rebuilding the t-case again, putting the last of the engine back together and painting it, etc etc... The good news with this is these are also in the direction of finishing the project as well. I have a suspicion that it might rekindle my love/interest/thoughts on the project as well, so maybe this will be a better time to evaluate perhaps...

3) it would be nice to get that $$ for other projects but it is not necessary..

---------

So my thoughts are maybe I'll just sit on it, try to clean everything up (the bummer is I have been cleaning for almost weeks now 1-2 day a week it seems and nothing is getting any better as of yet.. I really need to figure out a way to store it all a little better. Our shop is like a bomb went off and at least 50-60% of it is my fault.

I also need to store my white truck indoors this winter in the shop but if its running it shouldn't be a problem to leave it inside and just make my shop mates move it each time it needs to get used... So not a big deal there as well, perhaps... Selling the 55 would free up my space but again is not something I may do...

Parting it out would suck also, it really is a good question... Or again, just hold off for now, maybe keep doing a little work as required and keep trucking.. Regardless, this summer I would need to hammer out the last of the frame modifications and the derusting and coating as I mentioned... So perhaps just see what happens...

I just edited the last post with a little more info, so again I'm curious on all of your thoughts... Finally galvanizing the frame sure would be a fun summer project. The other question is I have thought about cutting the front frame horns off and moving them into a more vertical position. Sort of like this (see attached photo).

I have a whole folder of photos for bumper inspiration. But the idea is it would have a dimple-die'd 'skid plate' type aperatus with a winch mount built in as well that attaches to the bottom of the bumper. I would then build a custom semi-ARB like bumper as well (rather than modifying one, which I did lightly with my white truck:)

When I get home I'll post some of the front bumper pics I had in mind for inspiration. It sure will also be nice to have a decent wheeler now, which I haven't really had since '05 when I sold the pig #1...

I also have a new FJ62 as well, just FYI, since this thread turned into a little bit of life streaming as far as all of the new toys and trucks bought and some even already gone (such as that red Toyota pickup which was replaced by the Ford truck that I also loved but have also recently sold as well...)

These are some interesting thoughts!
I recently went through my own doubts when I moved recently and it came time to move the garage and my stash of Pig parts.
I had been stockpiling pieces that I intend to use when I refinish the Pig. The problem was when I moved I was just amazed at how much Cruiser "stuff" I had accumulated and how much room it was taking up.
It really shook me! It made me wonder if my hobby was still reasonable, or if I was just wasting time and space with things I have not gotten to yet.
So thanks Andre, it helps to see others wrestling with the same issues...

Thanks for this TJ as well...

All the stuff I am considering. What I might do is perhaps buy or rent some sort of mobile storage unit as well to perhaps address all of this stuff as well. It is all a good question... The second part is the time to do it all which in the last couple weeks in particular has shrunken down a lot.

If you're seriously considering selling all of it, consider selling it in parts. I would definitely look into buying that engine from you:cool:

This thread is turning back into "Sad Sad day..."

:rolleyes:Really, so good of you folks to pass judgment.

I have never met Andre, but spoke on the phone over the past several years, one heck of a stand up guy.

Whatever he chooses to do with his project is his choice and your opinions are very negative and not needed.

Problem with the internet is there is not filter for asshats.

:beer:Rob

Damn. I thought my shiny new asshat was in style! Now I have to take it back to the asshat store. I'm all wicked bummed now.

I must've missed any asshattery.. BTW, i've met Andre several times in person, and you're mistaken as to what he is really like. He has a different phone personality that comes across has helpful, and awesome.

;)

Oh snap!

Honestly though, after just reading the entire build thread for your white pickup, I might be even more excited about that one. I am totally in love with that truck and each and every mod you've done to it. It's such an amazing project and knowing that you are still using your incredible creative and artistic talents on a build actually makes the pig issue a little less sad and a little more understandable.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

Exactly, unfortunately as well. The thing about the pig is it will have the sick super powerful and efficient (and better, I think(??) engine, and the 6 speed, and will be smooth.. I used to be such a wagon guy but after owning a couple trucks I am sort of back on the truck kick.. Also my wife seldom comes with me (she is a trooper but this put her over the edge a hair ((she was riding shotgun)) and never was really into 'being in the car for too long' sometimes (though we have had some awesome road trips)...

Also we don't have kids (yet) so I am pretty far from needing a wagon. I suppose its also a lot like the end result of the trailer I built as well.. (did anyone see the end result of this?)
M416 Build - Expedition Portal Forum I absolutely loved it, and in the end I felt like I suceeded that it seemed to perform or even outperform an Adventure Trailer due to its smaller size and some of hte features I built into it, which was a huge feat for me... But I decided to sell it because I knew it would sit about 4-6 years before I finally got to using it and at this point with finances I couldn't let it sit (it sold for $5600 in the end)... So it was a bummer but a question of needs versus wants and finances of course too.. :(

The thing though is there is no such thing as the perfect platform.. And I think I am also evolving to a spot where I could actually have more than one vehicle, conceivably.. And of course.. An FJ55 is an FJ55 and there is nothing like it..

So at this point I'll just keep on truckin and see what happens....

So to go so negative on everyone.. :(

Andre,
I have always followed your threads, been in lurk mode for sometime though. After selling V-Wag and the Hybrid 60-80 series to convert to the Hilux world for the past two years... I think I finally figured it out. You need both a Hilux and a Wagon! I am extremely antsy to jump back into a wagon (FJ55). With that being said I would hold on to the FJ55 you got going on. Clean up the rust and store it til you can finish up the project. If you need some cash sell the 4BT.

P.S. I am in a 2RZ powered Hilux that gets 27 MPG that does great on the highway and better on the trails, so I understand the draw to them.

Keep on with the Killer builds man!!!

If I would make one recommendation it would be to finish and drive the white truck for a bit and make sure it actually does what you want it to. I hate to see you sell off the FJ55 project in hopes an un-driven and untested truck will fit the bill for your wants and needs. Lets face it, you've been known to jump ship on projects and I while I don't claim to know which ones are right and wrong, I don't know that you'll be keeping the white truck for too long. So you sell the FJ55, sell the white truck and your left with a gas-guzzling FJ62 and gas powered dirt bike, we'll have to force a username change :D
