Biodiesel Piggie #2 Buildup (was Sad Sad day...)

I forgot to mention for some reason I did this assembly in my underwear, LOL :)

Head torquing technique. Tighten 65lb, then 90, then turn it a 1/4 turn. Supposedly torquing to 125 lbs is a stronger technique according to some of what I read but the engine isn't going to be powered to have stupid gobs of power (like it could) so I just do the factory technique.

And the final pic. It's since been painted (and looks awesome) and as mentioned pretty soon it comes out for final assembly... At least this milestone to be done shortly :) I've had these parts for eons already unfortunately...

I found this post from my first buildup thread that shows how much carbon buildup there was. Also note the head gasket is a different color.

Pretty psyched... Sorry guys to post so many mundane photos. Super pysched.. I'm starting to think I'm going to try to finish her up this winter I think, finally get her done.. :)

So, any progress?

I should be rotating back out to the west coast in about 2 years, do you think you will have it going by then?:D

J/K

Nice work.

bump. how's this coming?

Not too well though as usual I am psyched to get it back together. I finally have all the parts to fully put the engine back together (new rebuilt injectors, starter spacer).. I realized this is going to take so long and the $$ especially that I decided to quickly hammer out a mini truck to have something decent to wheel for a couple years until I get this done... We leave in exactly a week for a trip I put together called the Carbon Neutral Expedition (I'm going to try to get the site fully updated shortly) www.carbonneutralexpedition.com to the Overland Expo...

The truck is:

Thanks guys.. Here are more pics and the buildup thread if anyone is interested.. Specs are:

-1990 Toyota Extra Cab
-Mercedes OM617 diesel, tweaked and juiced, custom 3" exhaust, Saab 9000 115 amp alternator that bolts in, easier than wiring a GM alternator (same principle, uses idiot light ground). Big FZJ80 air cleaner. Single Die Hard 930cca Platinum battery.
-custom motor mounts using 4BT solid rubber motor mounts (only $8 each, very similar to mini truck motor mounts but beefier - mounted 45 degrees).
-4x4 Labs adapter to GM pattern (work of art)
-Marlin 23 spline trans (using AA bellhousing to GM)
-Centerforce 21 spline clutch disk, LUK (Napa) clutch
-2.28 doubler
-4.7 t case
-custom cross member
-heavy duty SFA with the coils/suspension seen here.
- Marlin rear bumper and sliders
- ARB bumper with M12000 I have lying around, ARB trimmed out to fit the M12000.
- Pretty badass custom galvinized or powdercoated headache rack with spare tire mount.
- Old Man Emu heavy suspension rear.
- Taco V6 diff.
- 33" Treadwright MTR pattern retreads on a 17" FJ Cruiser wheel
- clean body, painted white.

- at some point veggie oil kit with a 20 gallon aluminum tank out of a Summit Racing non foam fuel cell.
- 15 gallon H20/methanol kit to I can tow pretty well with it also and have balsy good highway power as needed.
(only components I need for this are some of the veggie oil components and the two tanks, already have the adjustable H20/methanol kit that reacts to boost pressure).

In general heavy as hell, designed for desert hauling ass, light air, and long miles as comfortable as possible and hopefully 25 mpg...

[/URL]Expedition Portal thread which is slightly more weak sauce...

4BT swaps build thread (shows the engine bay fab work, cross member work, radiator etc as the 5 cyl diesel is long)

That is one of the coolest minitruck setups of all time. The paintjob is icing on the cake.

I doubt it TJ, I have also recently bought a FJ62 and the alternator seems to be on its way out so I am looking for a good 2F/3FE alternator that will work. I bet there is something like a GM version of something (for example what Mean Green uses). I can definitely wire it up myself...

Here is the bombshell that might not surprise anyone.. I have a new job that looks like it is the ticket and route I'll be in for quite a while (it is almost a dream job, and my first real real job, and also in the dot-com sector)... As a result of the white mini truck coming out so well, and that things and life/priorities are now changing, I'm realizing that I am not going to have the time to finish this truck for a long long time. I was just down there literally 20-30 minutes ago giving it and all my stuff I have amassed for it in since this whole thing started in '05/06 a good looking over and am trying to assess a value of everything...

The 4BT is literally flawless and is going to be completely regasketed, new/rebuilt head, perfect compression, I also recently got in my high performance injectors. So I am basically going to put together the 4BT and it should be a top of the line unit... I am assuming about a $4500 value for it with the shortened exhaust manifold and performance HY-35 turbo, the performance injectors, and the $1500 in gaskets in it. The trans is about $2500 I figure though I spent closer to $3000 for it... The built Dana 300 t case is about $1000 with the heavy duty input shafts, clocking ring, the 29 spline input gear. I know I could get at least this if I were to part it out... And then the truck itself with all of the associated parts, the non USA ambulance barn doors, and on the 80 series locked frame. It would be pretty easy to retrofit the body/frame to something else like a Chevy 350. The axles are getting about $1500-$2000 it seems...

So I am thinking:

$4500 engine
$2500 trans
$1000 t-case
$4000 body on FZJ-80 frame with locked FZJ-80 axles, with the non USA ambulance doors, the custom rear bumper, full set of FZJ80 seats, and almost all of the related parts to get it done.

So this is about $12G (asking price, which I know is a lot). I wouldn't particularly need that much but this is close to what I'd get if I parted it out unfortunately...

What are people's thoughts..? It obviously pains me a lot of even think about this.. But the reality is I'll have a pretty sick off road truck for now and I don't really need a wagon I don't think (at least for a while)...

Open to all comments... :( :(

try not to take this personally but you're a punk ass. I hate it when people sell toys. I am very reluctant to sell toys. I like that six speed though. Could I use it behind a chevy V8?

I laughed at this, mostly because it was my first thought too. You've done such a good job on this, not only performing the work, but also documenting it, it would be so sad to see it go. I've been looking forward to seeing it come together, its such a neat project, and would gladly wait a whole bunch longer just to see it finished. But of course that should have no bearing on what you do with it. I totally understand the situation, I've been in the same place (sorta), and I know what its like to have an old project get put on the backburner till you lose interest altogether. So do what you gotta do Andre, but I'm hoping you decide to keep it.
