Heh, you should try welding 20 gauge sheet metal with .035 wire. That blew. I had to do the whole "blat" "blat" "blat" method.
Another thing to remember that increasing the wire speed creates heat just as much as raising the amps. Its all about finding that happy medium. I usually take a look at the welder recommends and start tweaking from there, until I'm happy with how the welds are turning out.
I have also strayed away from the whole stack of dimes look. I have it down to where I just shoot straight into the V crack and let the weld do the work. You might have to move your gun up and down a little bit but for the most part you can lay a straight bead w/o much movement. When Mark gets back i'll take a digital pic of how my welds look on the roll cage I just built.
