What's the word Phoenician? Any progress on the rig?

last I heard was a few days ago, he bought the metal for the engine mounts. His hoist is being used to pull another engine out at the moment, so he can't get a mock up just yet. Honestly, I've been too preoccupied to hassle him lately, we're having major security issues here. Woke up this morning to car bombings and mortar attacks, and a week ago we had to clear an entire building within out perimeter because of sightings of gunmen roaming around. I also had to replace the entire AC unit at my house, so not in too much of a hurry to spend more money this month. I kinda get my fix by driving the up armored 200 diesels and looking at you guys' builds. but you're right I do need to get on him for more progress pics.

I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with your fuel supply. I'm curious to find out what the fix is. Thanks for checking up on me.

We find it hard to believe, sometimes things are more important than our rigs. LOl

Mortars for an alarm clock? Guess you didn't roll over and go back to sleep. And, a car bomb is a serious security system. You don't get your car back, but they don't get it either.

All joking aside, stay safe over there.

P.S. You're the only guy that if we don't hear something from we get worried. Keep in contact.

Here are the latest pictures I have. It's of the engine mocked up. One of the engine mounts needs to be fabbed. Not much else to report, will be getting more details later.

That must get you excited!

Our engines are just about the same. Your water inlet is different and you have the oil fill on the gear case. Otherwise the are about the same.

If your mechanic uses the liquid filled engine isolators, have him take detailed pictures so I can see what he did.

I will get you some more video fo mine running soon. I've been running around like a chicken with my head cut off getting things done that I put off until the end of the build. Plus, taking care of little issues with the swap as they pop up.

Keep their heads down. Tell me if you need anything.

Wyoming,
Thanks for all the encouragement and offers, knowing there are still good Americans out there makes a world of difference. I got both oil inlets, in the front and on top. I thought it was strange at first, like maybe they needed to be filled separately or something. I'll post up pictures as soon as I get them. Been busy here with work so it was a pleasant surprise when I saw my inbox. Post up your videos when you a chance.

I had a friend ask to send him pictures of some of the vehicles we ride in. I borrowed a friend's camera and got permission to take the following pics. Had to make sure no OPSEC rules were violated. This one is the Nissan Navara with the 2.5 liter turbo diesel with the intercooler. It's what we call in the US the Nissan Frontier. It's uparmored and still a work horse. Use it to drive around base.

here is the G-wagen, what used to be my all time favorite vehicle. Not this specific model, I prefer the 2 door convertibles of the 80s. Almost got in trouble for taking these pictures. This one is not a diesel, but is a strong work horse, also uparmored and comfortable. This price tag sits at a minimum of 275k, easily goes up to half a million plus depending on accessories.

This last one is of the 200 series LC with the V8 turbo diesel D-4D engine. This engine is a power house and we have not yet broken down on us yet. All our suburbans have broken down or overheated or had some kind of issue. This is one comfortable ride. It's B6 ballistic armor and can still haul it when we need it to. I'm waiting for more pics of Big Red from the US, once I get them I will be sure to post them. In the meanwhile I hope you guys enjoy these pics.

sorry can't see much of the engine the inner cooler covers most of it.

if there was a way of getting it back I'd have a very profitable business. There are tons of uparmored toyotas just sitting around. There are even more ARB bumpers and Warn winches in containers just sitting there.

here are 3 more pics I found of the 200 series diesel. You can't see much because of the inter cooler, but it's better than nothing. I love this engine, wish Toyota would bring it to the US.

About a month or so ago, we got a tanker of bad gasoline, so all our suburbans were down, leaving only the Toyota's to run all the missions. They did so with no maintenance or mechanical problems. I mean these trucks were almost going 24/7.

Why is there no way of getting things shipped back? Are there no shipping companies?

lol, the Iraqi's are stealing copper wire from all the buildings we handed over. If there's a way to steal the paint on the walls they would take that too. Even if there were companies, they would have to pass through different militia areas and they would surely be stolen there. If not the bribes would outweigh the benefits. It's still a backwards country. Better chance buying it from Yemen or Saudi Arabia and shipping it.

First off, happy veteran's day to everyone who served. Sorry for the slow postings and updates, I was in Kuwait last week and got back to Baghdad to a full work schedule. Here's the update for the 3 guys who are following. Motor mounts were made out of 3/8" steel with gussets for reinforcement. The engine sits on it nicely. Let me know your opinions.

Two more pictures. The hoist can be seen, but it's not holding it up. There's a jack under the engine keeping it from falling back. I'm hoping that next week the tranny and the rest of the drive train gets put back in. It's slowly but surely coming alive.

Side note, I just got told that today is not Sunday, so you veterans will have to wait two more days to be happy and celebrate. Marine Corps B-day is coming up so if I'm not on by then, Happy birthday Marines.

Looks good the whole way around. I like how he bent the steel to make the mounts. It looks like the engine is sitting level and will have plenty of clearance with the hood. It also looks a little off center toward the drivers side, which is good to get a littel more clearance with your third member. I'm glad to see that you went with the liquid filled engine mounts. I'm going to have to re-fabricate so I can get the ones I have in. The vibration is not really terrible, but everything in the rear view mirror is going in circles at 2000 RPMs.

The only problem I have with what I'm seeing in the pictures above is the rectangular headlights. If you want to be really cool, you should get the round ones.

I keep thinking about switching to round lights, but need to stay focused on the main picture at least for now. Money is a very finite asset in my house. I like the way the engine sits and also glad to be using liquid filled engine mounts. I have fillings I want to keep :D. Anyway next comes the transmission, cross-member and transfer case. I'll worry about the AC and stuff after that. It's Texas, AC is a must. Anyway Red should be able to go wheeling by the New Year. The little bugs can be worked out later.
Have you posted video of you driving your rig yet?

No, not for a while. I'm going to get the bugs worked out before that. The next video will be after I put the exhaust insert in to show some guys how well it works. That should be this weekend.

Ask you mechanic if he wrote down the center to center measurements for all the engine mount holes please. If so, I need them.

I was joking about the headlights. I was trying to imply that the 60 is better than the 62. Lol. Because it is.

I got what you were implying, I'm stuck between what's cool and what's functional. 4 eyes are better than two, even if two look cooler.;)

I'll ask him, but probably won't get a response until Monday US time, because everyday is Monday over here.

I'm pretty positive that those are just the factory front mount 4BT motor mounts, used in chevy transmission applications. I had a set that came with my motor.
