Looks great. Did you hurt your back handling that tire?
No i nearly passed out while Aurora was taking her time trying to get the bolt through. I may have blown out my other knee as well :D. In all seriousness, the humvee wheels are the ones I'm worried about. I forgot to mention, I still need to bolt the quarter panel protection arms ( technical term) to the chassis. Tomorrow, I'm gonna joy ride for a bit.

Looks good Mike, Like I've told everyone.. The toggle clamp is "FAB SET" so tighten it where you can barely get it to latch, drive around a bit and let it "stretch", check the tension and re-tighten if necessary..

J
Will do, it's tight now, but will recheck again. The adjustable tire thing is almost to the end, but it's on there solid. The thing is a tank now, great work J.

Here's the quick and dirty. I needed to push it in a few more mm so I backed up into the oak tree. Fit perfectly, then I repainted the spot. Every guy who works on his truck needs an oak tree.

Looks sick, Mike! Good thing you got that dent in the DS rear quarter panel before you got the armor on...doubt you'll get the opportunity now...

That dent is the reason I got the bumper. PO put it there.
I can only imagine a Humvee wheel and tire.. I weighed my steel wheel and 37 and it was 127#.. I lifted it 9 times on and off the carrier the other day...

I don't know how I'm gonna get the humvee tire on there. Probably with the help of steroids, or my brother.

37's kind of make you think about having another hinge at the base of the carrier so it will fold down to accept the tire. What if you made the swing out pivot axially like a gull wing door counter clock wise? Then you could mount the tire from the ground and rotate it into place like a windshield wiper.

That's how Humvees do it. They fold down and have a pulley. I thought about it before, but I like how solid this looks and feels. Maybe it's something J wants to experiment with.

I've thougt about it ... BUT this bumper weighs in at almost 250#s.. add a swing down at approx 35#s plus spindles.. TOO DAMN HEAVY... You'd have to run heavy + OME springs with an AAL ... HA!

As far as 37s go... If you want to run with the dogs... you can't pee with the pups..

A rotating swing arm might act like a Guillotine if it wasn't counterbalanced. Nor would it open if you were parked next to a wall. Oh well, it's not bad to try to think out of the box occasionally.

A horizontal pivot is the only weight neutral way to mount a swing arm. It makes the most common usage the easiest; opening up to access the cargo. How often does one actually need their spare tire anyway?

I have looked at several swing down versions for LC, Jeep, LR over the years... they all seem clunky and in the way. IMO, the simpliest and lightest version, no matter what size tire, is the one here and on a majority of rear swingouts on the market.

Oh dear god that looks good. Could you post like at least 400 more pictures when you get a minute plz?

Glad you like it. Here's one more, hopefully it holds you off until I get home.

Ordered military gas cans, but your ET idea is a good Halloween gag
Ha, Ha! Yeah, but I guess to be historically accurate to the movie, you'd have to drive in reverse...but the bonus would be that you'd get flight capabilities with a 60!...at the low cost of a steady supply of Reeces Pieces...
