I purchased some spark plug wires from Matt for my FJ. The boots on the Japan made plug wires require a plug with a tall spark plug insulator. Any recommendations for a set of 2F engine plugs?

Thanks,
Sam

I am a firm NGK believer for Toyota'a

Since you are posting this in the '40 series forum, I assume you have an FJ40 with an F or 2F. "FJ" could mean pretty much any Cruiser with a gasoline engine. Or even one of those 4Runners with the fugly body option package that Toyota made for a few years

Anyway, unless you have really done some work on her, your low compression low rpm, 1930s technology F or 2F power plant will be happy with almost any plug that will fit, so long as it will actually make a spark. ;)

So, would there be a more better spark plug for a mildly modified 2F block with perhaps slightly higher compression that occasionally sees RPMs as high as 3500 (but not often)? Asking for a friend.

With my OEM rebuilt '86 2F, I've run nothing but Toyota plugs, Denso's W14EXR-U.

Being RPM's got mentioned, after reading this @Mark W post < Click Here > I've up my shift points quite a bit. :grinpimp:

I'd consider 3500... "not really out of low rpm" still. ;)

For a quality plug that will last, I am a fan of NGK. The only name brand that I tend to pass over is Champion. But to be honest I can not point to any reason why based of personal experience in Cruisers. I *think* that back in the day I was disappointed with their lifespan in in my 429 Super Cobra Jet. But that was like 47 lifetimes ago, so...

Curious why you recommend these. The book application for 2F engine for the 'V-Power' NGK is part number 1233 (BPR5EY) which is a colder plug. Those pictured above (BPR4EY) are one level 'hotter'.

Do you have any issue with the electrode or insulator burning out?

Also, do you use the FSM gap of 0.32 or do you keep the pre-gap of 0.36" ?

OK, doing the little research I should have done first, the BPR4EY = W14EXRU = 90919-01065 (what the EPC calls for), and the BPR5EY is W16EXRU (90919-01064).

FWIW, all the blue-box aftermarket Denso plugs now available in the USA are made in China. The NGK are made in Thailand from "Japanese Components". if that matters. If you buy the Toyota boxed plugs from Mr. T, they are still made in Japan, Denso, last I checked.

Thanks.
