Best soft top for fj40?

Something that seldom gets mentioned when talking about OEM and Ehsan tops: They don't fold down. If you want topless you have to uninstall them, which isn't that hard but it takes a little time. Plus you'll need somewhere to store all the pieces. That's fine at home, but on a camping/wheeling trip it could mean stashing it in the woods or whatever else to prevent theft or damage etc.

You can just pull the canvas off, but I don't think I will ever wheel my rig with those bows installed, at least not in tight quarters. They're expensive and hard to fabricate and they wouldn't last an hour before getting hopelessly bent and busted.

Sometimes looks ain't everything. . .

When I get mine, I am taking it to a local shop that makes convertible tops and I am going to see if they can modify it with zippers to make it removable without having to unbolt any bars.

JohnnyC, isn't yours modified something like this?

i dont remove them...i run my top year round...new england weather also...no flapping...they stay there nice and tight :)

if i get the time i''l take a close-up

I meant the straps when they're not in use. Where do they ride when the top isn't rolled up? If they're attached to the hardtop holes they're on the outside of the windshield, no?

thanks.

NO need to unbolt anything to take Ehsan's tops off or on.

The bows themselves are a different story.. but they break down in a jiffy.

not sure but was told this was a factory "FAST TOP" .. uses sail rail over the windscreen and button studs on the tub..

Uses the roll bar for supports ONLY (no additional supports required)

comes with soft windows that clip to the doors and zip onto the softtop

note the soft top isn't compatible with full doors as it tapers in at the top.

My first 40 had one made by Kline, I now have one made by Best top....I like the Kline top better. The Kline top seems to be tighter, but both are very good tops, now Best top has the snap less mounting system, so you don't have to drill holes in your tub. FST looks the best, but I don't like the look of it when you are "top off " and it is $$$$.

Good Luck!:grinpimp:

Adam, that's one of the best looking FJ40s I have ever seen and I vote for OEM soft top, beautiful trucks guys :bounce::bounce2:

Looks just like a 40 should, don't it? Complete with the stickers and fender tubing...is that something MAF offers with their 4plus grill guard?

Anyway, back on topic, I run around with my top secured exactly like Adam...never even bolted the male snaps to the rig.

(Mine doesn't look as good as his)

But I think next time since I always run around with the top rolled up, I might try to find a local boat trim shop to make me a full length bikini style...just haven't figured the rear crossmember that would have to be added. I guess you could either tie into the rear cage or maybe copy the rear hoop of the OEM top tubing???

Anyway, my vote is for as little obstruction and confinement as possible in a top...course Houston doesn't need a lot of cold weather protection..;)

Nope, they're custom. Fully bolt on with some tabs and spring bushings at the brush guard and a post on the front of the sliders.

Thanks for the compliments on the truck. Wish I still had it.
