Driver's Frankenstein Seat:

Went to a pick 'n pull to meet my 60s bizarro twin. Rig was practically stripped clean, luckily for me all seats and belts were still in tact. Unlucky for me, it had been raining a lot and the interior was swampy(no doors).

Disassembled and pulled out the passenger foam and cover. Decided to take the whole driver seat too, simply for the functionality of the mechanisms, good slider, recliner, and didn't have the typic right shoulder lean.

I was pumped, my wife was confused when I show up at home with another trashed drivers side seat!

Blah blah, created my Frankenstein seat and got it installed. Finally no more foam crumbled tumbling out every entrance/exit.

Next I will clean it up, get rid of the blue ink stain and swamp ass marks.

I'm pretty fired up, new functional seat on the cheap!

My treasures ( passenger seat bottom, full drivers seat, functional rear seat belts, 2 closeable vents, and a horn contact ring)

Paracord Steering Wheel:

Ran across the post from Spook50 about his paracord project and thought I would show my results (since I did it a little differently).

My wheel covering was loose and cracked pretty badly so I decided to cut it off and start fresh. With the paracord now it's about the same thickness as an FJ60 wheel...which I like. Pretty easy to do, just time consuming.

Finally organized my storage box under the platform. I have been collecting the square buckets from lowes that the chain comes in, you can usually ask an associate if they have any empty ones. Well I've used them for just about everything and then it hit me to cut them down to fit and use them to keep all my junk from rollin around. Best part about this mod...absolutely free!!

Interesting. I really dig the look of it with the vinyl padding removed. What weave did you use? Looks different from the "grip it n' rip it" style I went with.

Thanks, Same as yours I believe, I followed the instruction in the link you referenced. Unless I did it wrong but it came out fine so...

Less than $5...

Here's a cheap fix for a noisy hatch & tailgate...

The access panels on my rig were rattling like crazy. My fix was to use foam adhesive-backed weatherstripping. Remove the access panels, and apply the foam as close to the edge as possible. Don't worry about the screw holes. All you need to do for those is cut an x through the hole, and the screw will go right through.

Don't forget to do the tailgate (under the carpet), those were the loudest on mine.

The foam was $2.25 per 10ft at Home Depot, and I only used about 12ft.

Also, on the longer panels I also put a long strip down the middle to reduce vibrations. (Might have been overkill tough.)

I've been having some brake troubles and found it was due to blocked breather caps pushing pressurizing my axles and pushing oil past my seals into my drums. this wrecked the brake liners and drums. eventually my fronts took the load and warped the rotors long story shirt got the brakes fixed but the breathers need addressing hence my mod. I got 15 feet of 1/4 inch fuel line and ran it with the brake lines to the front of the engine compartment. that was $18 and then a "t" connector to bring he front and rear into one line for $0.30 and lastly I had an aftermarket valve cover breather that looks like an k&n air filter sitting in my garage (essentially free but probably cost me $20 a few years ago). all put together a pretty important upgrade for about $20. vinyl hose would likely have been cheaper but it cracks in the cold more easily than rubber hose. hopefully my axle seals stop leaking now!!

Maybe these have already been included this thread, but if not..."HOLD-It" Clamps for flashlight holder. Approx $7 at home depot. Had a difficult time picking a place to put them and still have to adjust the placement but works for now.

I was asked to share this tail light MOD I did this weekend. Hope this helps!

Hi Fellas,
I was sitting around this week staring at my rig with a furrowed brow wondering what I could do to make the tail/brake, reverse, and rear turn signals brighter and more visible while in traffic during the day. I've always thought they were a bit dim by today's standards (although certainly sufficient for the 80's...) To me - what with a new crop of texting teenage drivers being released into the wild to enrich the depth of idiocy on the road every year - it seems our aging, lumbering, lovable beasts of overland virtue could use any help they can get to keep from becoming "rocks in a flooded stream".

So I bought a roll of this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/380432899453?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&var=650045375551&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Took off the lenses, removed the bulbs, and lined the aged and dull (did they even try to make these silver?) parabolic reflector as best I could to get complete beam coverage.

Here's some subjective pics of the attempt for your approval. The L side tail light has been modified while the R side is in original condition. (I couldn't for the life of me get the timing of the blinking hazards down to show the difference in turn signal quality, but it's as significant as the others...) View attachment 940375 View attachment 940377 View attachment 940378 View attachment 940379 Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with the result.

I got a hat for the dash.

I got it from eBay for $15 bucks.

The label says "dash pads". Fits great. I don't have cracks on the dash, and I want to keep it that way.

Was that used (rather than new) for that price? I can't find a new one for less than $40+

Yes it was used. It has a small hole, but I don't mind. I'll put a hula girl or something to cover the hole.

I had set an alert on eBay to send me an email when a dash mat was for sale and I jumped on it.

Sweet! Like the Panama flag... Spent a couple of summers in Las Tablas for Carnival it was epic!

That only works if the fluid can make it to the sprayer . . . my hose is broke somewhere above my D Pillar . . . when I push the button it just dribbles down into my cargo area . . .

Thats my next fix
I know this is old but I'm just now reading through it all. I've got this same problem. I have to tear the headliner down, it leaks from overhead.

Check out my thread in the 60 series forum on relocating the washer bag... And hose.
