Yeah, but how often do you really have to put gas in your Land Cruiser!

Lol. Try it you guys. I wanna know if it works for all of us.

And I do put a lot of gas in this thing. I've got an excel spreadsheet dating back to January 2011. It's a lot. Haha

works for me!! no more looking for a place to set my cap!!

Been thinking about this for a while.
A bag to carry my folding chairs in outside the vehicle.
Understand that I've broken every 'camp' chair on the market and have gone to folding auditorium type chairs. I've had the current set for about 30 years now. Anyway, was at the surplus store today and found 'engineer cargo bags.' Put the tops of 2 chairs in one bag and bungee the middle loops around the bottoms, put the other bag on top, same thing, then bungee the whole mess to the spare. $8 plus bungees and carabiners (don't really need 'em but put on one side makes hooking the bungee a lot easier) which I already had. If it turns out they hang down too low--don't think they will--I'll turn 'em sideways and put 'em between the tire and the tailgate. Oh, and if I need to take my other two chairs, I got two extra bags.

Delete this notion.
After living with it for a bit, just too much of a pita to work with.
Re-purposed the bags as tarp carriers. Got a chair for Christmas that folds up small.

Next case.

So I've seen the post for putting a zip tie on the gas cap. Worked good. My zip tie broke the other day and then I realized this: We are all silly. Toyota beat us to it!

Such simplicity!!! I tried it this morning on my 60.

Bill Gates said it best. He always liked to hire lazy people because they are the best at finding easier ways to do things.

Awesome!

My good friend introduced me to KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid. Toyota has that on lock :D

Exterior mounts for propane tanks.

2 ratchet straps $15.
1 8" piece of 2" PVC, free scrap.
1 24" oak table leg, free scrap.
2 18" safety chains off brush hog mowers, free scrap.
4 zip ties, ? $ but really cheap.

Can you send some more pictures of both mounts? This is great!

There are no 'mounts' per se. Whatcha see in both pics is pretty much the whole thing.

I already had the bumper with the tire and can mount. I sat the small tank in the tire and stuck a piece of pipe at the top to keep it upright, then cinched down with the ratchet strap.

On the larger tank I put a stick (table leg) through the bottom of the can rack, zip-tied it in place, sat the tank on top and cinched it down with the strap.

Pretty high-tech. Just like my 'Cruiser. ;)

The fuel cap trick works on my HJ61 also - good find ! I wonder if it was really designed for that...

Very nice! What size are those two tanks?

I think there have been more follow-up posts on this gas cap thing than for just about anything else in this thread... really!?!?!?! This IS going to work for EVERYONE that has a stock gas cap... do we ALL really need to post about our success (and picture to prove it)? Too much chat in this thread makes it harder to comb through for ideas.

Mark
PS: It is a really cool find though....

Whoa, someone is a little testy this morning!! Relax man, jeez.

Got the idea for this one from another forum, so I can't take credit for being the original :D

$30+ for a Scepter spout? Nah. How about less than $10 worth of plumbing parts and a little good old fashioned ingenuity? This also lets me easily use an extra long hose so I can comfortably fill my heater's fuel tank without spilling (or having to pick it up and put it on a raised surface to prevent spillage).
