Anything helps if you don't have any. However, Fsm would be my first choice. I have Haynes and Gregory and every now and then I will pull these out but I usually use the fsm for most of my work.

Again, which Factory Service Manual contains the differentials, transmission, and transfer case?

anyone else ?????? Anyone got a web site to make life better >

A name you need to know is Jeff Zepp. His web site has a section on rebuilding a 1976 T-case complete with pictures. www.rzeppa.org He is restoring a 1976 FJ40.

Won't help you now but I will be adding my t-case rebuild later this year. It will include the 3 sp gears to 4 sp case swap.

Owners, emissions, calif. suppliment, body, and engine.

I tried to buy all 3 manuals from the 800 number

Toyota 1-800-622-2033
All that they had left was Chassis
They told me they the others were no longer avail
and that there most likely wouldnt publish any more.
So dont drag you feet on the chassis manuals they have
left.
Get em while they are still avail.

I just ordered a drivetrain manual from my local Toyota stealership last weekend for my knuckle and differential rebuild I got on the burner for my '76, and they can still get engine and body also

Kinda funny, the parts guys said that there was no way that it was still available. They was wrong;)

Get em while you can

All manuals for an 03/77 FJ40

Engine 00400 98126 Cost: 20.10
Chassis 00400 98154 Cost: 26.86
Emmisions 00400 98159 Cost: 45.84

I want to make sure I'm getting the right manuals since the shipping costs aren't cheap and I don't want to do it twice. Thanks. ....Steve

EDIT*** I confirmed all the part numbers with MAF site and they seem right. I also confirmed that $OR charges double what you pay at Toyota.

The 800 number is Toyota Publication warehouse.
Ie the keeper of the manuals.

At any rate. The manual you are refering to is the
chassis manual. the one that is avail. (till gone)

Electrical and Emissions are no longer avail.
That is not to say there may be one a shelf somewhere at
a dealership in podunk iowa that may be avail.

In short. I am not making stuff up this is the Story given to me
directly from the publication chick that takes your order for manuals.

I asked for all 3 mans .. all she was able to sell me was Chassis.

In short I wish you luck and hope you get all the manuals from your dealership.

But the official statement is, as I posted in my original post.
The publication warehouse has no. Emission or engine manuals.

My post was well over a year old ;) but I did get all three manuals shipped out to me for my 77. They're still in the box Toyota shipped them in on my shelf. Sucks they're out of stock now though.

sorry bout the confusion

Steve O: I posted your quote to show the manuals in question

My post was aimed at Phrog.
I dont doubt he will get his Chassis manual.
and it appears he didnt order the others..
so the outcome will be good for him.

mainly i posted. Initialy to point out that if you dont have a
chassis manual and have been dragging you feet. DO it now!
and to point out that the other 2 manuals not avail from toyota
distribution center.

that is not to say you may be able to find 1 somewhere but, the qty
of stray on the shelfs in Podunk Iowa, are gonna be few

Does anyone know if this manual would be what i need for my '65 fj40? I'm 3 days new into owning one and can't start without the right manual....well i could....but....
Am I correct to assume it's an fsm?
Thanks for any help....
Edit: "Correct" as in a general repair manual

Chilton manuals are useful, also have information on non-US cruisers.

FSM is first choice...

Have you(or anybody) purchased the Chilton manual? I am about to buy a non US 40 (originally from South America). Just wondering. Thanks

I had the idea to scan my 40 series manuals to PDF and upload the files to a thread.

fsm: f engine
fsm: chasis 6?-72
2 ea. owners manual: for 67 & 72 (helpful for 4wd and pto ops)

was there legal objection to this? If your giving it away for free I'm surprised no one has done this on the web. For instance a library can circulate books without copyright issues.

I could keep them off the boards and just plain email them to people for free. I dont see any reason why we can't circulate this information freely.

Just ordered all three manuals from Toyota.
Engine $20.10
Chassis $45.14
Emmissions $26.86
$16 shipping plus whatever your state tax is.
I ordered for a 77. All in stock

I got tired of running around calling various "sources" for the manuals. Wasted some money on used ones only to find pages missing.

I went to SOR and bit the bullet. My thought was that I'm in this for the long haul, it's important enough for me to spend the money on my investment and have the right books for my '78. Just my .02cents :)

which dealer?
