I dunno if it's a regional thing but up in Salem VA we have an Interstate vendor. I've been using autozone batteries in everything and had multiple warranty replacements (I think there's some kind of weird power drain issue in my F150 that kills batteries), but will probably switch to Interstate when the time comes.

No for those autoshop batteries. I never bought one but a friend who bought from them had to get a replacement within 6 months and again another in few months. They refused to issue a new battery and ONLY refunded $50. He now uses Bosch battery and its been 2 years, and no problems. I buy from Walmart and those run 5 years without any issues. They have specials on new batteries like $89 or so. Also, I have the 4runner (24F) sized battery in the cruiser for the past 18 months and works well even at -10 Celsius! Toyota battreies are also highly recommended and it is about $118.

I really wanted to avoid one of those cheap batteries so still trying to source one elsewhere.

After several non-Toyota batteries that did not make it past 6 months, I went back to the original Toyota battery and have not had any issues. The non-Toyota batteries that I used always died when it got cold. The Toyota battery is probably $40 more than the other brands, but they last longer. Even if the other brands are warrantied and replaced for free, its just a hassle. I'd spend the extra $ and get the Toyota battery.

Called the Toyo and Lexus dealership just now and they confirmed that they are just using a rebranded Interstate 27F battery with 710 CCA rating. Essentially same one as Costco. Toyota dealer quoted me $115 for the battery so may just go get that if Costco doesn't have it in stock.

If you wanted to go an hour out of your way, I just called Interstate All Battery Center - Salem, VA in Salem and they have the 27F in stock.

Thanks but unfortunately I am going up to NY through WV,PA and not up I-81 through Roanoke/Salem.

I'm considering the Interstate SRM-29. Former cruiser I met yesterday said he had one in his previous cruiser and loved it. Very curious if anyone else has run that battery or has knowledge of it.......search yielded 0 results.

I thought I had settled on the X2Power 27f. But, that battery is $300 vs. the $129 for the Interstate and that guy swore the SRM29 ran his ARB fridge and accessories and started his cruiser like a charm.

I just installed a group 49 last night. Napa p/n 7549. 900 CCA and 195 reserve minutes. It replaced a group 34 that already had a spacer under it, making the install very fast. The 34 it replaced was a Diehard gold and it is bad after 3 years.

The 900cca are appealing. No figment issues? Will definitely see if one of these is available locally

I thought the "Toyota battery" was the stock Panasonic unit and cost several hundred bucks - is that no-longer the case?

I'm in the market for a battery soon. Couple weeks ago needed a jump after wife and kids watched a movie in the truck while off, then recently I've been hearing some sluggish cold starts in the morning. Makes sense since it's a Duralast Gold I bought 60k miles ago back in 2012!

Last time I tried getting the Costco battery and they didn't even carry it, perhaps I will see if they can get me the 27F everyone's referencing here.

I splurged for a sealed X2Power SLI27FAGMDP last winter. Got tired of scraping the white fuzzy corrosion off my positive terminal and it was time anyways. Got it from BatteriesPlus, they have a 10% of coupon if you order online and pickup in-store, plus a mail-in $30 rebate. It cranks with verve to say the least!

I did some research and it seems the interstate at Costco is a great deal straight fitment battery. I ended up buying a Duracell group 31 DTM AGM battery because of my winch and extra lights. Ended up fabing my own bracket and terminal extenders. The terminals are on the correct side but towards the center of the battery. Sams Club also offers a decent comparable battery.

I purchased a 75lb group 31 Interstate dual-purpose battery with the terminals on the wrong sides the other day to run my ARB Fridge. I didn't want to deal with taking it back and trying to find another group 31 with the terminals on the proper sides so I extended the positive battery cable to reach. The main ground cable reached just fine but the ground cable that goes to the fender was too short so I made up a new one with larger gauge cable. Since I didn't want to run a dual battery system, the group 31 dual-purpose and a 100w solar set up + an emergency lithium starter pack will be what I run this summer on my camping trips, etc.

No fitment issues at all. Just need a 3/4 in spacer under the battery.... It appears that the group 49 only comes in the reverse terminal configuration that we need.

I'll add to the consensus of the Costco battery! I run them in all my rigs. 100% hassle free replacement! On the note of the 27F - I live in Los Angeles and had to visit an out of area Costco as they had them in stock versus my closest Costco. I just did this a few weeks ago, so I know it's possible as other have shared.

Thanks all! I ended up getting a monster of a battery. The NAPA Lenend 7549. 900 CCA rating and a 75 month warranty. 18 months free replacement and 55 months prorated. For $141 out the door. We'll see how it holds up!

I wanted this battery originally but nowhere locally had it.

Thanks! Ended up with this battery! Very happy with it.

I wanted this battery originally. But happy I found the NAPA one that fit. We'll see how it holds up though.

Is this a straight up, simple install or did you have to modify something to make it fit and sit in the tray?

My Interstate battery has been a little slow cranking the last few 12 degree mornings.

She fits. I snugged down the battery holder and seems fine. Will try to find a small spacer to place underneath it to prop it up a little higher so the hold down fits more level but it’s fine for now.

It really is a monster battery! Even the guy at the store commented that it was a beast of a battery.

There are only a few actual battery manufactures in the US. Most batteries are made by one of them though they are sold under various brands. I have had the best luck with the ones manufactured by Johnson Controls. I know one major retailer who went from Johnson Controls to another manufacturer. After a few years the switched back to Johnson Controls because of the excessive return rate of the new supplier. You should ask who the actual manufacturer is for the battery your buying since some retailers get them from different suppliers depending on what part of the country they are being sold in.
