So back on March 20th - 26th my wife Maria and I set out with my good friend Karlos on a Baja trip just past the Baja Norte & Baja Sur border to a little town of San Ignacio. My buddy Karlos just bought the Lexus in February and we took it on a little trial run down to San Felipe to the SCORE 250 race about 10 days before this trip.
I am a little late posting this up because it has been a LONG month from taking two Project Management classes a week, my wife's Dad falling severely ill, helping my buddy get his rig ready, fracturing my figure tip two days before the trip and since the Monday driving home from this trip I have been sick and it turns out I had Pneumonia! WHEW! so glad March is OVER!

Anyway here is the entire slide show of photos LINK and I still have to peace together all the video from the whale watching on the Panga boats. It was an epic trip and we saw and even touched the gray whales!

Some of my favorite pics because this thread is useless without photos!

Leaving San Felipe and dropping down into Puertecitos.

Unfortunately the San Borja mission was closed but the local guide agreed to take us out to the local pictographs.

During the whale watching on San Ignacio bay there was no shortage of gray whales, they estimated 300 gray's and calf's this year.

After the whales we went to a larger and more well known Pictograph once we got permission and paid our fee to the institute in San Ignacio. These were up in the hills with a gorgeous view back towards the Pacific.

The road ends abruptly and then you are on an epic ledge dirt road.

Nice pics! Rig looks great.

No, never once felt in danger, it is nice having a wife and buddy who speak Spanish but it's also a curse because they get everyone to make fun of me for not speaking the language! My number one worry down that way is Federalies shaking you down for money. The military check points are intimidating but at least you know you won't get shaken down for money.
I personally feel the Sea of Cortez side is safer and more beautiful but plenty of surfers travel the Pacific side, I just feel you have to go further down to get away from things. We saw ton's of snowbirds with plates from South Dakota, Washington, Canada & Montana. And we saw most of these plates down past Bahia de Los Angeles.
Here is a map of our trip although our plans changed a little as far as where we stayed some nights.

Great pics.

I want more details on how you fractured your 'figure tip' tho! :p You don't have much of a figure to begin with! :flipoff2:

OK, just finished splicing all the videos together. Really cheesy but it will do.

that is awesome, any trouble when you were down there? I just am too cautious to take my wife and daughter down that way nowadays.....

I would have no hesitation taking my daughter down there. Baja is very different than Acapulco or DF. The :princess: is from DF and so like Blue Tribal said, it's nice to have a native speaker.

I'm down there several times a year for off-road racing, and have been going down regularly since 2007. I have not once felt concerned about my safety while south of the boarder. But, I always travel with multi cars, we all have radios and stay within eyesight of each other. I'm about as Mayonnaise as one can get, and I get along just fine. Some Spanish would make ordering dinner a little easier though. lol
