Posted reply in wrong section. This is in regards to CDL mod, Sorry

I've just checked the Slee sites install instructions. They suggest the normal install location to be to the top left area near the hazard switch, that location holds my security switch. Is the connector long enough to reach the bottom of the controls to the left of the rear heater control switch? I guess the real question is, how much play do I have in the wiring?

 Followed the thread advice by first securing diodes from Radioshack, pulled the unit, dremeled the tabs, installed the diode, reinstalled and it worked like a charm. Total time about 15 minutes. Excellent mod, thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience!

X2.........thanks landtank, assuming you are the inquisitive genius that figured this one out.......mine whent the same as Rlabair's except I spread/sprayed:whoops: my contacts and springs all over my workbench and had to figure out the puzzle......the tiny black spring from the window lock was a good one:confused: ..............works sweet.

It was actually a joint venture between Raventai and Landtank. If I recall, RT came up with the idea after figuring out the guage was a similar (maybe same) master switch as on some other Toyota's that had the auto up mod. After tinkering with it a bit without success he sent it to Landtank who volunteered to give it a shot. 30 minutes later we had a auto-up mod.

So... nice job guys .

Joint idea...he gave me a broken switch and I figured how to make it work.

The auto up Works

Thanks for the great advice, after a lot of contemplation I convinced myself to have a go at this one. I was a bit worried about frying the circuit board I must admit. Done my "97" 80 within 30 mins includes cleaning the contacts, my mate was a bit wary of what i was doing but within 1 min of seeing mine done we started his. I also wanted to add that the resistor I used was 4007 and It worked fine.

A GREAT MOD THANKS FOR THE INFO:beer:

I just got done doing this to my '94. My circuit board was different than shown but it still worked. I looked for a picture of a diode on the silkscreen side (the side the components are on) but there was none. What I found was a couple of holes drilled through the circuit board. The holes looked like it was meant for a component to go there but none was there. The holes were drilled through so you could look at the traces(solder side) side of the board and find them. I connected my diode to the two pads (traces) where the holes were and pointed the diode toward the middle of the circuit board (line on diode toward the middle). It worked like a charm.

I then took off the rocker switch (promptly lost the circlip as it is really small) and filed down the stops. I was able to use a tiny wire to fashion an acceptable circlip.

A note about trying to get the window to stop in the middle. If you pull the rocker switch to full stops so it is in auto-up or auto-down mode you will not be able to stop the window in the middle. It will go to full extension. If you want the window in the middle you need to wait untill it has reached extension and then give it about 1.5 seconds...the logic in the circuit board then resets and you are now able to control it without it going full up or full down. Once at its stops you can control it either up or down in partials w/o it going into auto mode.

Easy mod. Thanks Lanktank.

Auto-Up Window Mod

20 minutes ago I went out and started the auto up window mod. It all went as described and works great! Thanks! :D I used a 1N4004 instead of the 1N4001 because I had one (I think the only difference is the reverse voltage 400V vs 50V). I almost pulled the dremel out, but decided to remove the e-clip and use my belt sander to bring the tabs down (I am a lazy bastard). This mod will get used, wish it was easy to do for all of the windows. I do not have kids so I just have to keep my own head out of the way.

I bought Safado's rig, a 1993 FZJ80. Before the cruiser I took out a 4Runner which required a lot of wheel spinning to get up the hills (open diff's and IFS). The setup on these cruisers is so much better.

I do need a mod for the gas mileage, it is truly obscene.

Do the mod. You will be happy you did the mod.:bounce:

Funny that you would bump this thread today. I printed the pictures yesterday and attempted this mod on a similar vintage Toyota-made vehicle (didn't work on that one though :frown: )

Removing the 2 tabs on the switch is very simple. You can take a small pair of needle nose pliars, grab the tab, and bend the tab up with a twisting motion, and it will break off cleanly. Takes about 5 seconds.

Maybe I should send you the window control and let you take a look at it. The board looked very, very close to the ones pictured above. It has auto-down so I'm guessing all the solenoid stuff is there. The printed side of the circuit board had an empty spot with what looked like a "missing" diode.

Guess I will take a closer look...

let me know if you want me to look at it. It took me a while to figure out the Camry one as the missing diode wasn't screened on the board like the LC one.

Thanks for the offer Rick. I opened it again and found another screened diode location. Soldered another in and it works great. Auto-Up on the daily driver again! Thanks for the hint.

I don't know how my search ended up here, but I'm going to go buy a few diodes tomorrow & do this too!

Now if I can only figure out why my windows craaaaaawwwl up in cold weather, I'll be golden.

Many have reported that replacing the rubber guides in the window have helped tremendously. I have bought the part for the DS but have not installed it.

I did this mod - VERY HAPPY with it - THANKS!!

Rick...you kick butt!!!

It took me longer to go to the Shack and get the actual diode then it did to do the actual mod. In and out extremely quick. Shocked the hell out of my wife when she came home. Only wish this worked for all the windows. :p
