Blew out my front differential today pre running with Abigail limped home. Now I need to buy a used one or rebuild... anyone have one for a 100 series??

Sorry to hear that :frown: I am going through that with mine right now.

That sucks. Should put this in the "what'd you do thread"

Where were you guys? How'd you do it?

I'm beginning wonder if it's the 4.7 V8 the reason I see so many front diffs fail on the 100 series. 2000 it was upgraded from a two pinion to four pinion. It also got Traction Control in 2000. Don't hear of them failing in the 80 series as often even with E-lockers. Were either of your failures when Trac was kicking in?

I was going up a very steep incline, got my front tires up on a ledge then went to get my rear tires up, did not notice that my front driver tire had to go up another rock. So 3 tires climbing all at once, gave it to much gas and boom it blew. Was not a fun grinding sound. Yes Atrac was probably working to get traction to the correct tires.

Then as I started backing down the hill backed off the trail a little and could not drive forward so had to winch forward re position then back all the way down and then turned around. Also popped a tire at this same time but did not notice for about 5 miles as it was a slow sidewall leak.

Then Abigail popped a tire then Alvis came and we all got back on the road together.

We were running Desoto mine trail. about 8 miles in. Limped it about 15 miles at 1 mph-10mph. @Cruddz came to the rescue and disconnected front drive line. Now I am looking at somewhere between 1k and 1500 to get this replaced/fixed.

Was the front wheel spinning and what was the RPM?

I honestly can’t answer either questions. Probably some spinning but don’t know for sure

Thanks for sharing this. I think I am going to just replace mine with new and then keep the old and rebuild later or do something in the future with it. At this point I may be able to rebuild for 1K or replace for more. IDK I just need to get it back up and running by next week as its my daily driver.

My vote is to bite the bullet & take it to Zuk for rebuild & locker install - best diff guy on the planet!
I did a lot more damage then originally thought. @murf and camel back are taking care of me. Case is blown and not ReUsable, rebuild is not an option. Both axle shafts are shot and support for the diff are shot on both sides. So essentially getting a new front end.

On the positive side I got a free upgrade to a premium vehicle for my week without cruiser and the trip to SD this weekend.

Photo is where the damage was done. 75% up on the small rock legde, didn’t even make it to the 2ft ledge at the top of the hill.

I know that hill. It's claimed a lot of 90's Nissan steering parts.

Wow, that sucks. For clarification, is the circled portion below what you got tripped up on?

That's a nice looking hill @Chrismanjs . Were you first up or did @Abigail breeze right up?

Also, Nice on the premium loaner, what'd you get? That makes for a more funner trip! Thumbs up for @murf and CBT's Land cruiser specialists. I've been there a bit lately getting sorted for a monster road trip. Out of all the vehicles I've ever owned, for some reason, I enjoy spending money when it comes to cruisers...

No @Abigail was following me wanted to make sure I screwed up my truck before she attempted LOL! I dont mind spending money on upgrades but this is not an upgrade so this just hurts.

SAS!!! It's only money.
