anyone using the Slee stripper pole tire mount?

Ok I'm putting a 3rd strap through the rim, and calling it good. It already barely moves.

Nice! Anymore pictures? Is that just a safety strap?

I'll take a pic with the wheel off tomorrow. The Slee design
took up too much real estate. My tire rests against the inner
fender well. It's got one 1/2" threaded rod and a big-assed
washer/wing nut holding the tire to the carrier. This pic is from
my 'Mud "garage". I don't remember the pic being that small.

I've got the slee tire carrier and I like it, though it does take up some room. A more streamline design can be had if one has the resources.

Hmmmm maybe I'll order up the slee afterall. I want the extra clearance underneath the 80.
If I had a welder, I'd fab up my own. It's just mot cheap. 200 for the pole, 25 for the mount and then shipping. Anyone selling there old setup?

I just sold this one I made with a buddy of mine (saw the idea in a magazine). It is different than the Slee stripper pole design but I wanted to throw it out there. It uses existing holes so no drilling necessary. I had about $50 into materials and having the tube bent. I say make your own!

Would the Slee pole mount on the other side? There's no way I could do shoulder checks to the left on my RHD with a 35" tire standing up on the left side. I have a rear carrier so I don't need one, but there are other RHD 80 owners out there.

Intending on doing something similar, is it best to have on drivers side or passenger side? Buddy of mine that is going to help me fab it thinks it should go on pass. Side for weight distribution.....I think it will be in my view too much over there. Any input?

Stand your spare up on the passenger side and see if you can do a proper shoulder check out that side.

This is the exact direction I'm going with mine except to completely fab my own brackets to bolt down on top of the wheel wells rather than weld onto the OEM seat bracket.

IMHO, directly behind you on driverside is best, because you lose the least range of visibility....it already encompasses a range of the available 360 degrees that you do not use. (in other words, you can't very easily look directly behind yourself anyway, when looking over your shoulders)

exactly. it didnt affect any line of site for me. ^^^

Got a good start on this as I need it complete by Thursday for a trip to Moab. I need to sourch some longer hardware to completely bolt it down but I think you guys will get the idea. Figured it needed a bling-bling gusset too. :D The upper arm is removable as I will have to bolt that down to the wheel first then roll in the tire and bolt it to the upright arm as the drawer and fridge will prevent me pushing it on the "hub" like you normally would. It constructed of 1/2" x 5" plate, 2" square 3/16" tube.

I'm also working on mounts for both my CO2 tank and a 5 gallon Scepter to go between the tire and window. More to come on that later. Those additional mounts will also get tied into the OEM captured nuts on top of the wheel well offing more support to the tire carrier.

The framework to the left is the start of a single drawer and platform to hold my fridge and dog. However, Porter is not impressed.

I like that setup! God I need. Damn welder. Even if it was arc welder I'd get down with some gab work

Corbet...I like your setup!

I too run my spare on the passenger side, using a modified Hanna Cargo Carrier. It works very well for me and have not had a visibility issues.

Interesting setup... but I think your stock choice is a little overkill. 1/2" plate on the base???

The more I wheel my rig the more concerned I'm getting about weight. More work for the engine/trans, more traction required to push, and harder to pull out of holes when your stuck.

^^. Slee's would be much easier for strippers to work the pole, though.

That's actually a good depiction of what I've been trying to do for a 20lb tank, plus, it may add to the structural integrity of the roof. ( for humor ).

Thanks for the link.
