I'm wondering if the M1-209A is better than the M1-209. Maybe the filtering material is better since the M1-209A is supposed to go for a full year.

I've run the M1-209 until now, my next change I'm going with the M1-102A as it's rated for 20k miles - which tells me the larger filter is unnecessary. But I do a BlackStone Labs oil report at every change (roughly 13k miles this time) so I'll let you know how the M1-102A does when I finally take it off in about nine months...

This is good.
In the immortal words of Edwards Deming "In God we trust, all others bring data".

I have been pairing these (M1-209) with the Extended Performance Mobil 1 5W-30 for a couple of years with no issues. I buy a 2-pack on Amazon.

Rolocado and others- any thoughts on the M1-209A? I've been using the M1-209, and when I ordered my latest batch off of Amazon the seller sent me the A model instead of the regular model. I'm a little ticked because I ordered the regular model and the seller decided to send me something different. Maybe the A model is better, or maybe the seller gets the A model cheaper.

The “xxx-A” is Synthetic filter media- which gives it the EP rating. I use the 209A. The difference between the 102 and the 209 size is a little more oil and a little more filter surface area. If you change your oil at 5-6k intervals its prob unecessary. If you like to go 10k+ The EP filters are a good option. Also the WIX XP are another option- basically the same as the M1 EP = synthetic filter media

I used the m1-209a several times, figuring more media should mean more filtering. I have not noticed any negative effects or anything different really other than I may be able to add 2-4 more ounces of oil than before.

Toyota Oil Filter (Made in Thailand) vs. the competition........Napa Gold 1516 all day. Here's too stirring the pot on all you over priced shopping 209 fans. All the way to the bottom of the first post. :worms:
NAPA go on sale for half price twice a year...around here, that's in February and October.

Getting the longer filter version (e.g. M1-209 or the Napa Gold / Wix equivalent) gets you not only more filter area, but something to grab with the oil filter strap wrench.

We use the cheap NAPA oil filters on our vans at work, and we get 300,000 miles out of our vans.
PM's are scheduled for 4500 miles but regularly get done in the 5-6k range.
Barely broken in!
