Loving these lights! Also just noticed I don't have a grab handle on my rear hatch!

1 red 1 white.

In retrospect, I should probably should of had one set of red and whites on each side to provide more light coverage. But this is working for me right now.

I tapped the cargo dome light wire and grounded the negative to the hatch. Like some that has noted here, the ground on my hatch was pretty bad. So I ran another ground from the hatch to the chassis through the grommet.

10w each? If you did both sides that will be incredibly bright. I did 5w on each side (i have to change lenses for color so yours is far more sophisticated) you can look at Rear cargo light install, ERG80 style to see how bright those are, it may end up being too bright for you if you did both sides.

I think the wattage on these products might be overly rated. It will be bright, but I have a dimmer. Maybe swap out for longer ones which should produce more wattage.

The dimmer idea is certainly some forward thinking, From your pictures it looks like you are getting a good bit of light from those LEDs. I know it is hard to tell in pictures. the ones I installed claim 357 lumens each and it takes people by surprise. Comparing your pictures to mine, yours look to be in the same neighborhood.

Switch between white and red with dimming option.

Hey sorry to hash up a new thread but I saw that you did this rear hatch mod awhile back and I am looking to do the same... where did you tap into the 12v lines for this? Thanks!

Happy holidays. I tapped into the rear cargo dome light. Went through the same conduit as the wiring to the rear hatch. If I was to go do it again, I would run additional wires just to have for future upgrades.

I tapped into my fridge wiring (fished the wire through the little rubber sleeve) which is ran from my aux battery so I can run the lights forever with no worries except cold beer.

My LEDs are so bright! It’s great loading the truck most the time. Sometimes in the woods, it’s a bit much. Considering installing additional yellow (bug resistant) lights on a dimmer.

Brilliant and thank you. Question.... why doesn’t anyone tap the wiper blade power for this? Or is it bc it’s switched and no always “on” ...? Also I’m trying to figure out what these guys are.... to see if there isn’t another power source I could tap instead of going through the headliner... which frankly scares me slightly :).

also what in the hell is that coaxial connector for!!?
thanks!

The LX450 came with a cell phone. That connector is for the antenna that was installed on the rear quarter window

ok that was my guess but never confirmed.... would the unit then that it’s attached to be powered? Is it worth tapping to get a 12v power supply from?

Don't know the answers to those questions but a cell phone is not a high power device so 12V may be present but with limited amperage.

Taping in to the dome light isn't nearly as hard as people make it out to be. The hard part is fishing the wire through the grommet to the door is the hard part and it is something you have to do no matter where you try to get power. You are going to want the light to go out when you close it anyway. You might want a switch to tell the door is closed so you can kill the power to even the door lights.

I cut a pair or surface mount LEDs into the plastic on the lower part of the upper hatch. Added a small toggle switch inside the hatch release surround. Tapped into the dome light power on the driver's side. Worked well and illuminated the hatch as well as the surrounding ground area.
I need to do this again on the LX450.
These are the ones I used:
High-Intensity LED Flood Light | Oznium
For the LX450 I used:

I added a small toggle switch to the handle surround and tapped into dome light +12 from the center row, fished above the headliner and followed the bundle down the upper hatch. They are more than bright enough in a dark campground and don't kill your night vision. They also make good reading lamps when sleeping in the back.

Maybe it would be better to mount some lights inside the truck but still in the rear area.

The LED strips that I installed in the ceiling of the cargo area are very bright at night and light up the cargo area and hatch very well at night.

Cheers
