Anybody ever thought about pressurized on Board Water?

Most oil change places have the small drums just sitting around (20 gallons?). Those are sturdy enough to sit in a few different configurations.

This seems simple and cheap.

If you have a manual transmission you can use the tank on the bottom of the radiator as a water heater. I started that project on my Jeep when I installed the mishimoto radiator. With a pump, 2 hoses, and a mixing valve you can have a semi-hot shower.

I pressurized a scepter water can to use as a camp shower. Used a spigot, schrader valve, and some PVC.

When you pressurize plastic jugs or pvc, do you leave a small compressor running while using? Or do you add air until a certain pressure, then use water and let pressure slowly leak down?

Stainless Valves for water jug, $13 on Am@zon and let gravity do the work (handles removed when wheeling for branches etc) Fill on truck or with drinking water from a kiosk that fills 5 gallon jugs, and leave on truck. Lifting them full sucks. Bonus..with swingout open my kitchen with sink / wash station sits right below. Throw in a little clear hose and the water is where you want it

I helped a buddy of mine with a 3rd gen t4r make a very cheap water tank for washing bikes and showering after mountain bike races. We used a large pvc pipe And in the end cap we put a presta valve to use a bike pump to pressurize the tank. It worked pretty well the only proble was we only had aluminum caps and even with silicone they didnt seal the best but it held water.

So, I'm assuming if you used a bike pump, you don't need constant pressure? Did you have to keep pumping it up, or just one time for a shower?

I have found it works best to pressurize when the can is at about 2/3 full. I put in about 8psi or so to add pressure. You can top off the pressure as needed. I have a Puma compressed onboard but you could use a bike pump for added flexibility. We're pretty frugal with the showering so this works well for us. Wet, wash, rinse.

Thank you! I also run a onboard air system, that why I was asking, my system puts out 150psi..... I don't want to blow the pipe up! Lol

The tank held pressure for about a day or two. We could completly empty the tank without adding pressure.

I thought about doing the pvc pipe route but felt like the large pipe on my rack would take up too much space and be too bulky, but a cool idea.

I already have a hot water propane shower.

The biggest drawback to this little unit I have is that you really need to have the water bucket and heater element up high or it does not pump well. I recently saw that front runner sells these cool little arms, so I got one:

https://www.frontrunneroutfitters.com/en/us/front-runner-rack-mount-shower-arm.html

what I like about this little piece is it comes off and all that is left is a little bracket. Really well made piece of equipment. I also purchased a $15 dollar solar heat bag. If we are camping in one spot for awhile I will setup the hot water shower and tent for my girls and will only have to pull the truck up next to the setup shower tent and attach the arm while putting all the stuff on the rack. I plan to use the bag for longer overland trips as I can just tie it up to the rack to get warm during the day.

this is so cool, thanks so much for specifying my summer project :)

I'm thinking possibly 2 or 3 smaller lengths, dep on roof tent space (yet to be acquired) maybe 6" too.

Yeah, I'm thinking more of an "S" or "U" style. And definitely 6". The only downside would be the additional fittings to make the S or U will cost more than straight pipe. But that's not the end of the world. I work at Lowe's so I get a discount!

Since it freezes up here in the northeast I need to remove it during the winter. I haven't put it back into service for a few years but it works really well and is out of the way.

on board water install - in reverse

Thinking maybe an "H" Shape then lift the ends 1/2" so they flow to the middle then elevate front to back?

I was chatting with a local vendor and he offered to custom make any water tank for$150 to $200, less for volume orders. I figured this forum has already come up with plenty of DIY solutions and everyone has a different space they want it in so I didn't pursue it. But I was thinking 18 gallons in the spare area, or 8 in the space between the frame and rear fender on the DS, protected with a little armor, fill and delivery tubes/hoses through a sealed hole in the fender coming through the jack storage compartment on the DS. Easy drop down of the tank for removing to clean or use off the truck.

I didn't think about it much...Just a little bit. Any interest?

What type of construction? At one point I was looking for a tank to fit between the frame rails on an M416 trailer - never did find anything.
