@e9999 Is right. Wilton handle ends are nothing more than a donut. Slide down to shoulder and peen the ends.

Yeah, I know what a Wilton knob looks like and I know how they work. Where do I get one - without having to spend a bunch of time making myself?

I can have a functional handle with a new end in minutes if that's all I'm looking for. But I'd like it to look original. There's a guy on ebay selling new handles for several different makes including my 3/4" C2 handle. Nice but would be $100+ by the time I got it. I'd think someone would be selling knobs but I haven't been able to find.

Behold! Big Daddy. Reed 108 (8” jaws and 285 pounds).

dang... seeing how you're going, you better get a bigger forklift soon!

Well, I'm a VICE collector. Does that count?

No, I didn't think so...

are there supposed to be separate serrated pipe jaws for it?

Well. There goes my week!

(2) Wilton 500S
(4) Wilton 1780
(10) Wilton swivel bases
+1350 pounds of scrap!

…and done! All needed new jaws and swivel internals. I have a great guy for new Wilton parts.

Just knocked the rust off of the Tradesmans to preserve what little original paint was left. The 500s were way too far gone. Got taken down to bare metal before repaint.

A lot of time and work and money but a fun project really.

We hear about all these guys who want to be buried with their favorite hats...

I think I know what you'll be going with instead...! :)

(better keep the location secret!)

Been a while since I picked up a vise (nearly a year). Pulled the trigger on this sweet little Rock Island 571 (3”) with what looks like less than an hour of total use and a super rich patina. The handle fits so snug in the yoke that it will hold the handle in place.
I’d like to see if I can get any of the original paint to show up. Maybe shine up the jaws, meatball, and slide in stages, and try to find a good balance of vintage and mint.

The slide has a date stamp of what I think says 4 52

Please be careful with the Birtman Electric tag on your Rock Island. Start with just some warm soapy water and see if anything is left of it under all the dirt. Rock Islands and Columbians are my fave vises. Great Find @RUSH55

I'm always impressed with how dense and overbuilt R.I. vises are. The LC of vises!
