Any source for Toyota plug and play engine harness?

IIRC all of those motors, except the 4.7 liter 2UZ, run CANBUS. The ECU is expecting signals from various other systems, and Toyota isn't telling anbody how to eliminate that from the ECU, so either you need to incorporate those systems (ABS, SRS, Emissions, EVAP, etc). Or you need to fool the ECU into thinking those systems are there. There is also the vehicle immobilization stuff to contend with.

Offroad Solutions offers a stand alone harness that has been cleaned up, for the 5VZ-FE 3.4liter v6.

The newer the Toyota is, the more complex the wiring/computer systems are. The CAN, Multiplex, and Immobiliser systems are the main reason why there aren't more swaps with newer engines. Toyota isn't like domestics. They hold their secrets close to their chest. Which makes it notoriously hard to fool these systems. You're almost better to just swap all the harnesses and ECUs over so all the systems can see each other.

That being said, anything can be accomplished with enough patience, time, and, most importantly, budget. :hillbilly:

Might try reaching out to Phoenix Tuning (not in AZ) or browse the MR2 forums looking for user mr220v

MR2's, although they don't typically receive the newer V8's.... tend to be the automotive whore that get engines from just about anything else you can think of.

Case in point - mr220v decided he wanted a high MPG MR2... so he used the gas engine from a prius with electronics from an Echo and has made significant modifications.

I'm unsure on his FJ capability but he, and the other I mentioned, build harnesses on the side that become plug and play for much more than just MR2s. 2gr is common 2nd gen swap (which is lifted from the newer Lexus/Rav4 vehicles) as it provides a lot of power for mr2's.... if those can be swapped I'd imagine they've figured out the rest.

There is a guy down in South Africa that makes complete harnesses w/ Spitronics ECUs for 1UZ/2UZ motors. I got a quote of ~$600 for a non-vvti 1UZ and ~$800 for a non-vvti 2UZ, these are the easier swaps since they have a cable throttle. The sky is the limit though, he can do all the *UZ family (4.0/4.3/4.6/4.7) but the VVTi's will cost more due to more electronics.

Well if you want to go standalone then I always suggest Megasquirt - and don't get a PNP unit.... get a dirt cheap unassembled kit and start from scratch. Is it more work? Absolutely.... but it will teach you way more than you thought you knew about EFI (as a general rule) and that knowlege becomes very handy when you're not close to home.

If you just want an OE ecu with a modified OE harness (typically, lets say you wanted a Tundra V8 motor, you would buy the motor with uncut harness and ECU...) you would send them the harness, indicate what it's from and what it's going in to.... they may have to source some other pigtails to work with your vehicle but they tend to send back plug and play OE like setups.

Wiring the 2uz is easy. I have a diagram I made that I can share with you if you like. You would need the factory motor side of the haness to start with and there is hardly anything that goes unused in that portion of the harness.

I agree, and I gotta give some credit to bustanutley because his diagram helped me out, but after spending several days tracing wires and cutting out the bs I wound up with a clean wiring job, and a box full of useless crap. The can system is not hard to keep happy and the immobilizer is the only thing you really have to have.

I would love to get the schematics for the 2uz swap

I have used Phoenix Tuning before. They also go by the Tweak'd Performance name http://www.tweakdperformance.com/index2.html. He can make any Toyota harness...to a point.

Starting in around 2005 Toyota introduced the Vehicle Immobilizer Systems to their cars and trucks and they are not defeatable. I have contacted a few people about this problem, including Tech Tom in Japan and nobody I have spoken with can do it. I am told you can buy a blank (unprogrammed) ECU for the Toyota and then have someone type in the codes, but it's REALLY expensive and probably wouldn't pass emisions testing. You could go standalone ECU, I use Adaptronic, but that's not cheap and also cannot pass emissions.

But the 2UZ shouldn't have any immobilizers anyway.

I played around with the idea of swapping a 3UZ into a customer's truck a few years ago and the immobilizers in that application were so many (8 points of immobilizer) that it just was too much. We ended up swapping in a 1GR-FE and used an Adaptronic ECU.

Just spoke with Tweaked on the phone and they said they could not help me with a 2uz...

I swapped in a 2UZ with immobilization system, and looking back, wiring in the immobilizer was one of the easier things to do. If you have all the components (key, key ECU, key transponder) and the correct wiring diagram, it's really the least of your worries in the swap.
