Any Down Falls TO THE OME lift?

For those already running an OME 2.5" lift (no body lift):

What tire size are you able to run? (hopefully with the lift, we are able to accommodate larger than a 275/70/r18)(33.2")

I run a ToughDog 2.5" lift. Given my weight, I'm running more like 1.8". 275/70/18 don't rub at all. About to go to 295/70/18 (34.3"). I had previously hammered the pinch weld flat. That would be the only thing I'd think you'd need to do to accommodate a 34" tire.

Feels like you are offroad all the time with OME shocks.

I used to think the same thing. I had heavies installed on a 4Runner but didn't normally carry much weight, and I think I have heavies installed on the LX now. Rough riding for both. I've never had AHC to compare it with, PO removed it for the OME.

But then I installed a drawer system in the LX a few weeks ago, and the difference is insane. The LX is smooth now. Still not as good as reservoirs, but totally manageable.

@saucebox I usually drive around empty with 860 coils (medium / heavy?). I'm hopeful once I load up all my gear for summer it will chill out a bit. If not, I'll go ahead and buy some reservoir shocks. Not a super rough ride, but it's definitely stiff. Reminds me of late 90s BMW 3 series I had.

Shocks were "the next mod" based on how it rode before the drawers. I live in the concrete jungle and the roads were starting to drive me a little nuts. I might still buy better shocks eventually, but matching the weight to the coils/shocks has helped a ton. Agree totally with your assessment otherwise.

FWIW I rubbed a little and had to trim a tiny bit with a dremel.

I can still rub the front bumper occasionally, but that will be over when I install my Dissent.

Holy thread revival for essentially “what size tire can I run?” :slap:

Yes... But almost 10 years later and still no definitive answer on how big you can go with just an OME 2.5" lift

So should I buy ome 60001/60002 shock combo for 382.50 shipped or nah?

I havent installed anything yet but I already have OME t bars and OME 2860 med load springs. Planning on a slee rear and possibly and aux tank, but that could be later down the road since I haven't made up my mind yet.

Seems like maybe it’s been covered a couple times here :hmm:

One thing I will mention is there are a variety of opinions of what “fits”. Some will run a certain tire quite happily with a little rub from time to time. Others will say that size will not fit because it will cause damage when you wheel it/flex it hard.

Also, each tire with a specific metric measurement will actually vary a little and can change whether or not they fit perfectly.

@geanes recommendation above is spot on.

Welcome to the forum though. Feel free to ask anything you want. Myself or others may give you a hard time, but you will find a wealth of info and predominantly friendly people 👍

Thanks. I think, after I install the OME lift, I will bend the front pinch welds, trim the fender liner and run 295/70/18 tires, unless others have not been able to run this setup or have other recommendations.

You'll be fine on 295/70/18 with the pinch weld hammered flat and that lift.

This thread may help, and you could ask @m3roar for his personal experience too...

This is exactly what I'm running (STT Pros in 295/70/18) but with Methods in a 18mm offset.

I rub the front bumper and I had to cut some of the fender/subfloor (for lack of a better term) in addition to pounding down the pinch weld. To me it's no big deal. The front bumper would suck when wheeling but I have a metal bumper waiting to be installed.

I think your offset is creating a few more interference issues than a stock wheel would, but good to know.

Running an OME lift (3rd time on different rigs). OME shocks are a bit stiff but certainly not "junk". Recently replaced the shocks with TD. A bit of improvement but not like its night and day.

Running 34's on TRD RW wheels. Hammered the pinch weld, trimmed some of the bottom of the liner. Works just fine.

No lift: 33
2.5" lift only: 33
2.5" lift and pinch weld hammering and possibly wheel liner trimming: 34

The lift doesn't buy you much tire size unless you also modify the pinch welds and wheel well liners. If you do that, then it buys about an extra inch in tire diameter. Beyond a 34, you'll require a lot of other work. 33-34" tires are generally the max.
