Any 200 series owners considering a 2017 Ford Raptor?

Don't forget Dodge Power Wagon. It has a much longer history than the raptor and seems to be the more versatile off roading vehicle bone stock. The raptor is shiny and pretty, the "it" "look at me" truck, but the Power Wagon looks good and seems more capable from the videos I've seen bone stock. That's saying a lot for that truck.

Video from the TFL guys

I've always thought the power wagons were sweet if for no other reason than factory locking front and rear diffs.

I'm not a fan of the insane "look at me" graphics package though. The "RAM" appears to be size 400 font too.

800.

Next one will be visible from outer space.

Automotive reliability has peaked and did peak about 10-15 years ago. All of these small displacement blown engines are under far higher stresses simply to achieve numbers and efficiency figures. They will NEVER be as reliable as NA engines of the past. Cars are also being overloaded with electronics that are far too interconnected. All of these systems that communicate and rely on data from sensors are bound to fail and disable some other associated system.

A 10 speed transmission?? Seriously? It's a numbers game and measuring contest that Ford is hell bent on winning.

I'd drive a Raptor for 3 years and dump it before the warranty ends. It is not in the same league as an LC.

FWIW: I spoke with my insider at the Ford F150 plant. The trucks that are sitting are waiting for either a re-programming of the transmission, or final test drive after re-programming. They should be released shortly thereafter. Good looking truck, just way too expensive for me. And I've been in the market for a 1/2 ton pickup. Would really like to get the Nissan Titan XD with the new Cummins, but at $60k for a loaded one....

Did he commment on the laziness of the UAW employees that assembles them? Another contributing factor to the junk that Ford/GM/Jeep make.

That's actually fascinating to me. Wow, if that transmission issue is a "last minute fix", just imagine all the stuff that will surface later.

I guess I'm out this round on the Raptor. Is it weird that I also really like the Ridgeline?

Not weird but very Ward Cleaver...

Dumbest thing on the Ridgeline: A toolbox in the bed that is utterly inaccessible if you actually USE the bed...i.e., you can't get to your tools if you've got a loaded bed. Dumbest place for a toolbox ever.

Fairly common practice since no auto company wants to go before congress (Toyota gas pedals, Takata airbags, GM ignition keys) and have to answer a bunch of questions. And probably cheaper for the manufacturer to deal with, than having to pay dealers to do it either before or after sales.

Ford is just trying to ensure everything is 'right' before they start shipping the trucks to the dealers. Ford was looking for employee volunteers (and paying overtime) to pick up the vehicles and put them through a 2.5 hour test run. I'm not a Ford employee, but I offered to go test drive a new 2017 Raptor (and earn some extra cash on my off days) for them...

But in the end, the public is always the best test bed for any new vehicle. Much easier to rack up a million miles 'real life testing' on 10,000 cars in the hands of the public, than on a handful of company test vehicles.

I couldn't agree more.

.
tacomas have had issues with their 6 speed auto

LC/LX have had issues with their 8 speed auto

Acura tlx having lots of issues with their 8 speed auto

With new CAFE regulations, small turbo motors (even new Lexus LS will have one) and lots of gears in the trans is the new norm

New 9 speed in the Jeep's has had issues, the 9 speed in the Honda Pilot (both ZF sourced I believe).

I think everything will have a CVT soon.

Save the manuals! The owner's manual, anyway, so you know what to do when your transmission blows up.

Man, I watched Leave it to Beaver every single day at 3:00PM on channel 6... after school.

When I stayed home from school (pretending to be sick), it was:

10:00 Price is Right
11:00 & 11:30 Gomer Pyle
12:00 & 12:30 Twilight Zone

3:00 Leave it to Beaver
3:30 The Andy Griffith Show

Ah...the good ol' days...

Ram is about to release a Rebel that is potentially far beefier than the Ford, and also has essentially the Hellcat motor in it:

Ram Rebel TRX
