I've been intrigued by the Ford Raptor since it was rolled out a few years back. Now, the 2017 looks even more badass. I want one!

This is, of course, putting on blinders to the fact that the 3.5 ecoboost that may not be the most reliable powerplant of all time, there's a new 10 speed transmission that I'm guessing will have problems, and who knows what other quality control problems that I just don't worry about with my LC. Maybe someone who has owned a few Fords can chime in as to quality control. My experience with friends and family with newer Fords (including the first gen ecoboost F-150) has been that they were all disappointed with quality past 50k miles.

I sure do miss having a truck sometimes.

Is anyone else lusting after this 2017 Raptor like me?

They always look cool, but it is Ford. Quality is lower and interior always felt cheap with use of low quality plastics. Deal breaker for me is cheap interior feel and look. The same issue I see with the latest gen of Toyota 4Runner. I am very loyal to 4Runner and had 5, but the latest one is just no go and why I have ended up with Land Cruiser which could do better too.

I would never get rid of my 200, so maybe when my wife's lease is up on her minivan I can convince her to drive the Canyonero as a daily driver and I can sneak a truck into the rotation. Unlikely probably, she loves her van...

If you seek badass?
It's in your driveway you crezeh foooo! :hillbilly:
You have one sweet 200...

I do admit that I was eyeballing the Raptor that Ford had on display at the Oshkosh, WI airshow this summer. If I were in the market for a pickup...maybe. But then I think that the only thing I'd actually enjoy with it would be high speed stuff in the dirt...which is a little too limited an activity for me. When I travel, I want my gear and my LC. A Raptor for me would see limited travel.

For speed...don't you already have a killer Lexus RC?

To me, a nice trio would be:
-A fully built 200 (you have that)...
-A zippy little street job (you have that)
-And a truck I don't mind loading up with horse manure (a work-horse).

On the other hand... If money wasn't a thing? Heck, I'd have 4 or 5 others in a monster garage! But alas, I have to save for bumpers on my 200. If you can afford it though...? Well done, sir, and I shall cheer for you! Go for it!!! I'm all for on-road and off-road JOY!

Nope, it's just you.

Now the new Ferrari 488 on the other hand...

Ha, fair enough!

Well I need to get some 4'x8' sheets of plywood from my local Home Depot and I basically can't do that unless I remove the 2nd row seats from my wife's van. So there you go, I need a truck!

Raptors are neat trucks. I considered waiting and/or putting in an order this summer but ultimately figured out a 200 was a better family car (and for my wife to be driving as her primary transportation.) So we ended up with our '13.

With that said I'd like a '17+ Raptor in a few years as a compliment to our fleet. Slightly different use case? Sure. Doesn't mean they're not worth owning.

Re: interior quality, I have to say I'm disappointed overall with the quality of our 13's trim. The aluminum F150's cabin is easily as nice as the LC.

While I respect the 200's capabilities and like it a lot, it's a <$50k cabin in a $80k car. At least Ford is punching up.

+1 on questionable ford quality. My wife had a 2013 escape that ate the serpentine belt and cause 2500 in damage. Ford didn't cover a dime, despite having a drivetrain warranty and extended service plan. I've owned half a dozen fords (all trucks or SUVs) and will never buy another one.
They are a neat concept, but for the money, you could buy a used tundra and have long travel suspension added, and not have to worry about the frame cracking or the questionable ford drivetrain.

Good points and I love the idea of taking a platform I know is outstanding (Tundra-I had a 2013 and it was a monster, my brother has a 2008 and it is also a monster) and modding it to Raptor-like levels.

But honestly, that's a lot of work: researching the right parts, finding a shop you can trust to install them, hoping if something goes wrong and you end up at the stealership you don't have to fight for warranty coverage, on and on.

I like the idea of "out of the box" warrantied capability. I wasn't too worried about modding my 200 since Slee is nearby and they have an amazing reputation (and lived up to it with my build.)

The Raptor is not cheap-loaded up 2017 closes in on $70k-but at least on paper it seems like a lot of truck for the money.

Interesting that no one seems to have a "my Ford was bullet-proof" story, at least not yet.

So it looks like I am in the minority here, but I really like the 3/4T turbo diesels from Ford.

For a work truck, IMHO, they are about the bet thing going. I hunted with a guy this weekend who has a 7.3L Ford with 425K on it. Has done very little to it, and it has led a rough life

i didn't think that engine was an option on the raptor though... i love the *idea* of a raptor (or raptor-like "out of the box" truck), but i don't think i'm ready to trust the reliability of it for the ~$70k barrier to entry. i would love to have a truck in the stable though! dang, i need a bigger garage...

Maybe it's because I am new to LC family, that I am blinded by my love for my LC. Especially after putting TRD wheels and KO2 tires this thing is my ultimate favorite ride even over my ~1000hp twin turbo V12s. I used to want to keep a sports car in my garage, but now after owning the LC, I want 2-200s and 1-100 and 1-300 when it comes out. I do have an E350 Van with 7.3L turbo Diesel International motor as my toy hauler. But my BMWs, S class Benzes are all for sale and collecting dust. I was about to buy my second 200 today but someone beat me to it.
I feel extra stupid as I was a die hard german lover from 1990+, would snub my nose at Toyota's and swore I would never ever buy one. Now I have to eat my words. In my defense I have seem older Japanese cars fold faster than origami in accidents and went to a number of funerals where people died in them.

Somehow Ford can never produce a highly engineered product. Very pretty stuff with nice features but other than their cargo vans I am not interested. The idea of the Raptor did catch my attention.... fully decked out production vehicle. I do love the idea of Baja racing and had I lived near dunes or a desert I may have bought one.

You sound like someone who likes toys. :steer:

But I can appreciate what you're saying. I don't drive my LC everyday, but when I get in it I'm always reminded of why I like it so much and why it has a permanent parking spot in my garage. Everything else will come and go, but not the 200.

nah. i'm new to the LC family too (not new to toyota though)... and i feel the same way about my LC - i like it better than my last three BMWs!

but i have to agree with @Tremek about the interior. there's certainly nothing particularly wrong with it (and i do think the 2016+ is an improvement over the previous years), it's just that i can't help but think they could have done a better job for the price point they sit in.

toyota has reliability engineering prowess, i'd just like them to take note of the interior design elements from LR, BMW, or mercedes a bit more.

Well I'm new to the forum, in fact just signed up because I'm thinking about trading in my Raptor for a '17 LC. No issues at all with the Raptor after 35k miles. My only concern with trading it in is that I'm worried that I'm going to have buyers remorse.

I did, until I found the LC. Toys feel like toys now, even the german S-class which has always been a symbol of perfection to me growing up. The LC is something on a whole 'nother level. I bought my LC over a Tesla P90 Ludricous with auto drive. I had 10 of my friends test drive the P90D with me before I went and bought the LC. Universally they all agreed the LC is a superior machine. The only thing that bothers me about the LC is the lack of amenities especially super comfortable 12 way seats. I prefer the vinyl of the pre 2013 as somehow my car is always getting covered in dirt inside and out.

THE LAND CRUISER (J200) SEPARATES THE MEN FROM THE BOYS!

if you don't need a truck bed, i certainly don't think you'll be disappointed! i've had mine almost a year and it still puts a smile on my face.

**EDIT** ...and welcome to the forum!

Nah the LC will fit 4x8 sheets of 3/4" plywood just fine. I was able to fit 3 of them in with the 2nd and 3rd rows laid down and the trunk open. I'm sure I could have managed a dozen or two but I only needed 3. No pics of me transporting them but here's the end result of my purchase:

THANKS! I do use the truck bed but only about 10% of the time. What are your thoughts on the massive rear video screens and have you found the drivers seat comfortable on long trips? The seat cushion seems short to me for thigh support and I'm only 6'.
