couple more pics of my progress... also got everything to the blaster today!

when installing my man-a-fre headers the damn intake heater thing that they also sell was in the way.... took it off just to get everything installed.. i'm going to see if I can grind it down and get it to fit - other wise its not that necessary i guess...

had to modify the carb insulator plate too...

Wow...things are looking really good, well besides the header thing, otherwise you've given me a few ideas should I build a DD one day and not another resto!

Just checked out your thread, looking good! Reminds me of my first 40 project, done in my father's only garage space over a several years...........a patient man.

Who was the local that did the cad plating for you?

patience! You're telling me :censor:

the plating place was... Rayco Metal Finishing 134 Mill St. Middletown CT

started work on the knuckle rebuild... do I absolutely need to take the birf off of the axel... i've cleaned most of the old grease out and it looks wicked clean in there.. can i just pack new grease in there and call it a day?

ALSO - i didn't have any good early or late headlight buckets just bits and pieces of both types... so i was SOL.. i planned on getting a used set of late ones and modify the early bib like others have done.

i found new ones for sale on TLC and thought i was getting the ENTIRE assembly but it didn't come with the back sides... anyways. I modified the early plates a little bit and was able to make the setup work.. the details are below:

1. cut out piece of the early mounting ring in the bottom right just the perfect size so the spring can fit tightly in there

2. hammer down four the four edges seen in picture two. these are where the headlight bucket will rest. I plan on putting that rubber edge lining on there to lift the headlights a little more therefore giving a tighter fit and more adjustment but this setup seems to work well NOTE: some model buckets have edges in different places - See my old ones down in the post below.. they only have three ribs... the new ones that I bought from TLC (stock toyota part from years??) had 4 ribs

3. hook up the spring around the metal on the bib and slide it into the groove you cut.. I'm going to put some rubber on the other side to give the spring something to bite into and so it won't damage the paint - NOTE: fully assembled, the spring can't slide out even though its not in a hole

4. slide the plastic inserts in the holes...
5. attach the bucket to the spring first then slide the screws onto the bucket and screw them in the plastic inserts! it fit nice and tight but like i said with the edge lining it should be a much better fit.

the buckets i bought were advertised and labeled as *left side only* i'm not sure if im missing anything but the old rusted buckets matched the new ones and were also identical but stock shown is *left* and *right* :meh:

front axel... check

all i can say is that was the dirtiest.. most complex thing i've had to rebuild on the cruiser yet.. i think i went through 4 rolls of paper towels.. two wire wheels.. a couple cans of paint.. two pounds of grease and a couple 's too!

and the results!!

EDIT: And I think I read through the FSM and coolerman's rebuild like 10 times....

its coming! I haven't gotten a call from the guy who's priming it for me yet.. hopefully next week

That truck is looking awesome. I love the attention to detail.

Good Job

thanks! if had planned this out a little better I would have plated all my old bolts and kept track of where they go... but for a lot of stuff I find SOR has what i need for cheap and they look niiice

been 11 days since my last post... i don't really know if i've gotten that much done since then.. but i've got my brake lines done.. ran the rear wiring harness.... AND got the body back from being blasted/primed FINALLY. I told the blaster to leave where he found fiberglass since he couldn't get it off that easily... two seconds with a screwdriver reveals the problems... nothing no one on this forum hasn't seen before thats for sure. The only pieces i might replace in their entirety are the rocker panels.. the door seal area is pretty messed up on the passenger side though I don't think i took a pic of that. I might get rear quarters as well..

and more. the rocker panels had the same type of rust as well as the rear of the bed.. the jump seat mounts and the drivers floor has some pretty nice holes and fiberglass.
