on a side note... whats the trick to getting the drag link apart?? that flat head nut... whats the best way to get that out exactly? i don't really have a huuuuge screwdriver - and its rusted pretty good so i don't think that will work (got it soaking now)

got the hinges

Got the hinges thanks! In the nick of time-the truck showed up today out of the blue to pick it up--had me scrambling to throw parts in it and tie up loose ends! He was supposed to call 48 hrs ahead two weeks from now!

Is that the new antenator on you motor?

Use a cold chisel that will fit the slot. Turn chisel with wrench.

glad everything worked out for your truck.. i hope it makes it safely to the UK

wow. been a while since i updated - got that drag link apart.. cold chisel and a impact gun did the trick! its been raining like crazy the last week or so.. so i've been busy doing things indoors.

-got some stuff painted up
- cleaned both my parts room and my shed like crazy to get ready for when i start to do body work
- restored my knobs and switches
- broke a bolt off while installing the oil pan cause im a tard.. drilled it out with the help of my uncle... it was an off center drill.. used some stripped thread repair s*** and seems to have done the trick the bolt went in nice and tight.. we'll see if it leaks :/ put in rotella 20W-40
- installed steering box and center arm casing
- bought a s*** ton of parts from SOR - they should be here on tuesday
- installed the transmission and transfercase! the pins on the clutch fork to throwout bearning assembly were a bitch!

this week:
-bring the body and panels to the blaster quoted $1200.. ouch.. but worth it.. they body is in great shape as far as new england steel tubs go but there is a lot of stuff i can't see.. like fiberglass and bondo so i need to know what i'm working with. I don't have the facility to get it primed so i'm gonna have MAACO or someone like that give it a couple coats of primer.
-knuckle rebuilds

and. the pics.

anyone know a good place to get gear oil... i need 4 gallons (i'm pretty sure) for everything (axles, steering box, transmission, transfer case).. does brand matter? or do I need to spend like $150 on a brand name? i still haven't checked with toyota to see what they have to offer

gear oil

Well I went for fast and got it local but yes it was spendy for the oil:eek:

Rigs looking great--well good enough for govt work anyway:lol::lol:

--just kidding, you are doing a fantastic job:bounce::bounce2:

just get an 80/90 weight and you will be fine.... once you get done with this thing you will be taking good care of it and will never run it long enought to wear out the oil before you change it... no need for "fancy oil"

just rebuilt the center arm.. had a bitch of a time getting the #4 (per FSM) cap on so I just used the old spring which was slightly easier and I finally managed to get it all on.. screwed #4 down tight loosened 1/4 turn then tightened the #5 top bolt all the way down...

the center arm is pretty tight so I shouldn't have any issues reusing the old spring right?

just bolting some more random stuff on the last couple days.. its still raining like crazy around here so that sucks. pics later..

one more question.... I have longer shackles but i'm not running any shims at the moment - will the angle of the pinion flanges change when I get more weight on there? I'm trying to picture it in my head but can't quite decide if I should measure the angles between the transfer case and the rear pinion now or later... i'll measure the caster when i rebuild my knuckles

some pics of my progress.. you made have read my thread about the shocks... i sucked it up and switched them today while i was waiting for my compressor to fill back up...

had to route the heater outlet hose through the alt bracket and up to a oil cooler pipe i bought... since the original pipe won't fit because of the distributor cap - keeps it clean and out of the way.

got the gano filter installed too
