Your last build was/is awesome... Your thread was one of the first I came across when I joined mud. It has kept me inspired to keep on going. I have read it to many times to admit.

Will keep a closeeye on this one, watching your progress... and your eye for detail is unsurpassed.

78groundup - I am going to try and keep that approach throughout this build as well.. i've made some progress let me know what you think...

recently i rebuilt my spring packs... exactly how coolerman did his. holy crap this took a very very long time. but the end result was worth it. disassembled each pack, wire wheeled, used rust converter, primer, paint, slip plate, reassemble, paint as a whole pack to clean it all up!

here is the slip plate.. your best bet is NAPA or fastenal - napa had it to me in a day. i only needed two cans

and my painted frame

and lastly a question to the masses.. what are these tires/wheels worth - i have four of them and are looking to sell but with the amount of tread left I'm not sure what they would be worth.

i also have a set of 4'' leaf springs.. judging by the bushings they were barely used but they have some surface rust i was thinking $300 for the springs..

wow.. lack of updates...

let's see... I've got the chassis rolling - I rebuilt the front axel/knuckles with a FJ60 front end. I've got the motor all cleaned up with tons of new parts... enjoy the pictures

cleaned up the trans/transfer case.

the engine is a F with 4speed bellhousing and 4speed flywheel/clutch. Now that I'm thinking about it... will my three-speed bolt up to my 4speed bellhousing?

I lost the 4speed throwout hub so I'm on the lookout for one

cleaned up the engine.. the top end looked DRY. let the motor soak in oil and some seafoam lubricant/cleaner stuff for a couple weeks while I replaced some bits. The pipe to the rocker assembly was broken so I replaced that from a parts engine I had.

When I dropped the rear main bearing cap to replace the rear main seal I found the bearing was toast.. so i replaced all of the main bearings while the engine was on the frame - not a very fun job but it can be done

some pictures pretty much as it is now... I put my headers on it and a carburetor just to see if it would run.

I was getting pretty anxious about whether or not i replaced the bearings correctly. The engine runs.. you be the judge on how well for a carb that doesn't really work

here is the link of the video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkwHyuNAdeI&feature=player_embedded

I couldn't get the motor to run for a long time - finally figured out it was spark.. so I grabbed the DUI out of my 1978 and it fired right up. Swapped coils and that wasn't the issue. What can be bad with bottom of a DUI distributor? When power is added you can hear a click. It is brand new (from a mudder) so I hope it isn't too much $$ to fix

Good Pick for Restore

Nice work! excellent pick for a restore/build. I have a 74 or earlier tub that has some good parts on it if you want to cut them out to patch your tub.
looking forward to seeing your progress.

feels like i've done a ton though it doesn't look like it

Rebuilt the rear axle/seals/wheel bearings and added disc brakes in the rear - when i re-assembled everything the wear pattern wasn't coming out 100% even though i didn't replace any of the bearings on the third. I don't have a press so i'm going to take it to a shop once everything else is done to make sure it all checks out.

had to lift the engine back off the frame to put the correct bellhousing on... and finally got the transmission in with rebuilt parking brake

The front tires look alot farther out from the rears. Is that from the 60 knuckles, spacers, or am I seeing things?

thanks guys

yeah - never sold those LTB's.. they are taking up space and ended up dropping as low as $150 bucks for tires and wheels but no one was willing to make the drive.

I think it is a difference in backspacing in the rims that makes it look wider in the front...
