Another perspective on rear storage

this is so well thought out i was wondering if you have thought of anything that would be secured with the rear seats removed? a storage area for that portion of the truck?

I realize that I haven't checked in for a while. I haven't given up on building the forward portion; I'm just so busy with everything else. Here are a couple of preliminary pics of how the forward portion will look:

The little footwell dip looks like it could make a nice "hidden" storage compartment.

Excellent setup mate! You've taken homebuilt drawers to a whole other level.
If i had the tools and patience i'd aspire to build a setup like yours. Good work!

finally moved my 60 drawer over to the 80 yesterday-- the 80 is much wider, FWIW.

Now I have my eye on latch upgrades.... anyone know where to get handles like the fine-looking ones on this build, but with space for a padlock? I like to use a combo lock so that I don't have another key on the keychain.

Thanks guys.

Type in the part number 11585A46 on the McMaster site:McMaster-Carr. It looks as if these are the same as mine, but chrome and they have a built in combination lock. Southco may make them in black as well but I didn't see them on the McMaster site. A little searching may pay off:cheers:

Perfect!
That's just the ticket!

Do you remember where you got, and what the bolts were that you use to mount the draw system to the floor in the stock chair holes?

LOVE it btw

man, that is one saweet box! it's so industrial and strong looking, great work! those latches would work nice on mine too.

619toy, did you get the flat plate with pivot ring from mcmaster-carr too? if so, got a part number??

Excellent ideas and workmanship.....well done and thanks for posting so far...I might take a wee trip to Morocco over xmas and you have given me inspiration to make something for my rear load area too....

:)

now that you've run it for a while-- are the latches enough to keep the drawer from shifting/thumping?

I need to change my closure system, not tight enough and the "Thump" of taking off/stopping is driving me a little bit batty.

FYI, I used those same Accuride 36" slides, now they make the same slide with a built in latch. You can lock them open (on a slope) and closed.

Great build!

one of the best builds I have seen on this forum.... My dream is to copy your design one day!!

I love it! Maybe I'll rebuild my current setup to mimic this one....

speechless, plain speechless. it's a thing of beauty

Terrific build! All first rate materials, the attention to detail superb.Your design is so similar to my plans. Maybe your pause between building the front section is similar to what has kept me from taking my design from paper to reality. What to do about a Big Ass cooler? I want to perserve the flat & low sleeping platform without a cooler on top, can't imagine unfastening it & lifting it outside when we want to sleep in the Cruiser. The plywood pieces you have cut and standing up shows a good volume however irregular shape. I'm thinking of building a plywood-foam-fiberglas sandwich cooler right into part of that section. Seems like a logical solution. But somebody please help me come up with a good solution without being a major pain to build. Sorry for the sort of hijack, your build has got me so jazzed to make some sawdust. Brian

BTW Venture a quess on the weight?
