Another cruiser gets a vortec

I took a couple of my boys ATV'ing today. My '62 struggled up the hills pulling the trailer. I thought a lot about Vortecs today.

Then, I come home and listen to this.
 
It sure makes me grin. I think it sounds good for an old beater:bounce::flipoff2: Rigger I keep telling you V-8 is the only way to overcome that feeling....So says the Dr. I am in the garage again this A.M getting her ready for exhaust on Mon.

Shin- Why? Having problems?
 
I seem to get stuck without the right tool constantly. What is the socket size for the bolt on the end of the transmission output shaft. I got the rear cross member where I want it I think, but I only have the h55 in there right now. I want to check and make sure the front drive shaft will work now that I have a longer tranny.

Any tricks to getting the transfer separated from the tranny?

This rig is going to be awesome. I can't wait to see some video of it haulin' ass down the road...

Yeah alot of bolts. You have to seperate the transfer case to get it removed from the tranny. There are 3 bolts on the inside. Not the best design but it is the only way. As for the drivelines if you are using a Marks you will be OK. If you are using the Downey you will have to modify the shaft so that is not a big deal. You want to make sure your tranny is sitting as close to center of that hump as possible.
 
The GAS PEDAL

Here is the modified pedal. Basically a plastic clip for a door/grill screw inserted in the original hole. Also the throttle lock bracket fits over the Lokar cable nut. Also one of the shifter done. It also shows the pedal mod on the left.

Well it won't be much longer. My guess will be the weekend of the 26th if every thing tunes up and there is no problems with the system. So I would start looking @ that weekend or the following to play it safe.:grinpimp:
 
Does the pedal still go through the fire wall? Mine as it sits will occupy the same space as the header on that side. From the picks it looks like the cable is routed back up into the dash, or where ever, and the piece of the stock pedal going through the fire wall can be cut off? Am I seeing the right thing?

what's the cooling setup on this truck you are building? Radiator & cooling fans?
 
The set up I am running right now is the stock fan and radiator. I will add the electric fan before Scott picks up the truck. Although I don't think it needs it, I will put it in just for kicks and it makes a good back up for the summer months. No shroud required.
 
Thanks Randy for catching that heater line leak. That could have ruined my day! Everything is looking super-fine; exhaust will be a nice milestone! At that point she's street-legal and ready to rock and roll....with a little coaxing, I'm sure.
