An ethical dilemma?

Was the engine rebuilt? It's no longer open and shut, now it's a matter of degrees. His lawyer can argue with your lawyer about the definition of mostly rust free.

I'd like to be there when his lawyer was arguing with Jim about whether that tranny had been rebuilt or not.

After this, he is likely to switch to another enthusiast type vehicle. He's been found out, and this thread is likely to come up with even a minimal future search. VOR has been getting away with this kind of business for years, this guy just took it to a new level of hyperbole. I feel bad for any real Cruiserhead taken by this guy.

I was doing the math on the 700 FJ40s myself. Classic hucksterism. LOL.

I really feel for the CO in all this - My ethical dilemma, were I in his situation, would be how do I put a couple rounds of 1" 12ga. slugs into said PO without getting caught ...

Ikid-Ikid. No justice, no peas.

Allegedly.

Hypothetically.

Four-syllable-wordaclly.

:D

Hey, thanks for the useless and illegal suggestion. I'm sure that will help the CO resolve the situation.

It was a joke. :bang:

NExt time I will put in a sarcasm emoticon. :whoops: if there were one.

It doesn't really appear that there is a good resolution. The CO did not inspect the vehicle and a thief took advantage of it. It is a shame but the truth.

This forum is doing what it should and putting this guy in front of the spotlight in the Land Cruiser world.

Unfortunately sarcasm does not translate well in this medium and there are those e-tough guys who are absolutely serious when they suggest things like that.

They don't mean they should go break his hands since they would get their ass handed to them in real life, but they sure would like to.

Insurance fraud?

Brett Young also operates under the business name "Auto Appraisals & Pre-Buy Inspections LLC". The business card has two phone numbers, 360-201-8786 or 509-588-4650.
The business email address is fj40man79@yahoo.com.

We have this info because it's attached to an appraisal he did on his own FJ40.

The appraisal was necessary so the CO could buy collector car insurance as soon as the FJ40 was loaded on the transporter to come east.

Do you see the insurance fraud on the horizon? Perp sells a junk car across the country. Same perp posing as a different entity writes up a glowing appraisal valuing the truck at $38-42K. Insurance is then purchased at that value. When the car arrives on the other side of the country with broken parts, bondo, inoperable, etc. an insurance claim is made for the value that was "lost" during the trip.

Insurance fraud is fraught with danger, though. The insurance companies have their own very skilled invetigators who operate outside the law, and they are eager to prosecute.

Wow, it amazes me how awful he is. BTW, Jim, you gave my 2 sons a ride at last years coal miner's and they were amazed at how well your truck ran!

So the perp's newest auctions (literally in the past month or two) have had wording added by him stating something to the effect that buyers should have their own appraisal done. I'm guessing that he got some kind of warning shot from an insurer.[/QUOTE]

Jim,

I remember seeing the same language in his auctions when I was looking on eBay for my FJ40 a year ago. I think it is a con trick to make him look trustworthy--that he welcomes 3rd party inspections. I feel lucky that I avoided his auctions.

I'm glad you avoided his auction, too! We had to do a little work to get your truck up to snuff, but nothing like this.

I must be mis-remembering. I thought that when I was first tipped to the perps's auctions in April or May, that they did not have that language. It was something that did jump out at me in the newest auction language. :meh:

A little rework is expected since not everyone has "Rainman" in their backyard ;) but the information in your two threads is truly horrifying. I am glad you got over your "ethical dilemma" and decided to do an ethical service to others.

So, just for giggles I went on to ebay to see if I could find some of his auctions...stumble across a "Pro-Built" 75 fj40 in camo...

My question is this:

Can a person ask a question like, "Is it true that you were indicted and incarcerated for nine counts of fraud for misrepresenting items you sold on ebay?"

Or is this against ebay policy? Or does he have the ability to edit those types of questions out of his auction?

After all, it's not a statement of fact, it's a question.

You can ask or say whatever you want, but this guy is a text-book Sociopath, incapable of being shamed, evidenced by his prosecution and jail or probation time and right back at it when his PO isn't looking. And it's not like he's going to post your question on his ad. Sociopaths aren't stupid, they just don't have the normal checks on deviant behavior like the rest of us. They see the rest of us as stupid fools put here for their benefit - someone posted the PO response to the COs letter about the condition of his purchase... Need I say more?

I wouldn't even bother wasting my time trying to shame the guy. You'd be better off posting in every regional LC forum you could find to warn potential buyers about him.

Oh, don't get me wrong...my desire isn't to shame him. I could care less about him. My intent would be to warn potential bidders of this guy's modus operandi and past. It just makes me sick to my stomach to know that unwary people are about to get burned.

He, as the seller, has the option of posting your question and his response for others to see. I doubt he would do that.
