STEP 7

Clean up the courtyard before the old lady gets home!!!!!!!
:whoops:

Standing looking at car he yells "pathetic 275's, PREPARE TO BE REPLACED!"

They look good though. Narrower will help with not rubbing. I wish I would have gone w/ 315's but the 285's will work for now. I'm gonna regear before I put 315's on.

@Gunney,
Amazing write up and project! I'm not in to heavy modding, so what really impressed me was all the interior work and clean-up.

Then, I've spent some time in Saudi, (in Riyadh, drooling at used car lots where cars were cheap) so what surprises me in these photos is all the (surface) rust we see. Combo of "sandblasting" and humidity (+sea salt), or just the way things are (I'm in Seattle where we essentially have no rust, at least not compared to my previous "home", Sweden)?

Keep the photos coming!

Ive just found out I will probably need new ball joints so there goes my front bumper for now :crybaby: (sooooooo much money being spent on this thing)

EDIT: It wasnt my ball joints it was loose body mounts on the front passenger side cuasing a clunk when I cornered and the body sepperated from the chassis.

Day 12 - Wheels and Tyres

So the day finally came where Amy got her hew shoes. YAY!!!!

The obligatory “before” shots, when she first arrived she was on 275/70/R16’s

253742_10150675001725301_903980300_19021449_2703537_n.jpg

Then the Old Man Emu front and back went in, 2.75” obtained in the front and 3” in the back with 10mm coil spacers and long travel shocks all round.

I picked up some 315/70/R17 BFG AT’s, we don’t have mud or rock here, only sand and gravel so they where the best choice…. only the best for my princess.

so I headed down t the car area to see what I could get to take the new tyres (original rims where 16 and I couldn’t get any 315’s in 16, I also happen to be a big fan of the tyre to rim ratio of the 315’s on 17’s I think they look PERFECT!

I managed to find some Toyota steelies with no visible seams, I don’t know what they are from, possibly a tomaca or sequida or tundra? All the cruiser ones I have seen have seams…. Again I saw these and thought they were perfect. A little agricultural but still blatantly Toyota and from 10m away they look like the stock alloys.

This was one of about 20/25 shops I could choose rims from… most of which are cruiser/lexus rims

We tested one on the front and one on the back and the backspacing was perfect, id equate it to running 1.5” spacers. It really entertains me that the tyre is half the height of the little Indian guy 

Stock cruiser on the left with lexus wheels, 33” dune tyres and a bit of stink bug going on as a comparison.

See there is another one!

Plus 4 more and another 200 G on the jacks behind me

268222_10150713728535301_903980300_19288973_6490360_n.jpg

Slight rub on the plastic

But none when it’s cut away… I suppose that’s the difference between MT’s and AT’s…. I’m still going to do a little grinding and then give the wheel arches some fresh undercoat.

A bit of tweaking here and there

267887_10150713730320301_903980300_19288985_8171193_n.jpg

I need to make a plan for the spare…

On the lift…. Im loving the stance! Just a hint of stinkbug

I will get some popper "after" shots tomorrow in the drive so I can do some mirror image comparisons...it was dark when I got home

then its WHEELING TIME

those look great Gunney.

Looking forward to seeing a front bumper. :D

You mentioned in your other thread that you are running long travel shocks all the way around? Are there really long travel shocks for the front?

not without ruining the CV joints, steering components and ball joints...

Gunney, sent you a PM about some things. And do the black rims.

I guess I have never seen it nor payed attention. But given the heat factor and sun(?), why do you guys not tint your windows? (edit: didn't notice yours looked tinted, guess I answered my own question lol)

Just subscribed great thread!

Solar tinting is very popular and very cheap, yout not really allowed to have tint on the front windows, windscreen and back window or the cops will get you so I have a light tint with the solar film on everything.... (see the cruiser in the back compaired to my one)

Shocks are OME 100 and 101, OME marketing gumph calls them "Nitrocharger long travel" as opposed the "Nitrocharger Sport"????????

I was pulled over by a police officer and a traffic officer on the way home last night... both of them didnt realy care bout the front bumper (although the did tell me to put my old one back on) they jsut wanted to know if the cruiser was for sale :)

I put the stock bumper back on this morning, just untill I decide to have my steel one finsihed.

yup, I can see that it does project a more rugged image than most of the M.E. trucks. You gonna get the babes now...! :) (although dump that hood emblem for the real Moab look, dude! :D )

I like my "stock" moster look so Ive decided to go for a roof rack and front and back spots and some home made sliders this month instead of a front bumper.

Ill give myself a xmas present of a front and rear bumper with winches on both ends once the bank account is feeling a bit more plump.

The stinkbug will go away with the rear drawers, all the kit that goes in them and the 40L water tanks in the back that will all come soon.

Still lots of small things to do like a
- Mini bashplate
- Head unit
- Drawers
- Sliders
- Winch
- Lift spare wheel
- Extended swaybar
- Extended bump stops
- RR & spots

and lots lots more......
