Started on the coolant valley leak repair today. Got everything removed & initial cleaning. Will deep clean tomorrow & seal, then leave to sit overnight.

Did you use new heat exchanger assembly? 16870-38050

Nope. Used the original one. Just presser washed it & cleaned the old gasket material off with scotch brite pads.
Not sure I’ve seen anyone replace the heat exchanger assembly. It’s a pretty stout piece.

All back together! No leaks following 10 mile test drive. Hopefully I never need to do that again.
One 10mm bolt from the SAIS was sacrificed and dropped into the great unknown behind the engine. Searched for 20 mins to no avail. Thankfully I had one in my spare parts bin.
Nice. I was out of town for over a week, so I paid someone else to do mine at 205k miles.

Haha! Far from it!
That being said, I am a 6'7" tall guy with big hands....so don't let it be said that only small hands can get at those SAIS 10mm bolts
Granted...I had a few bloody knuckles after the fact!

Took some inspiration from @jlm43 in his thread where he build a DIY platform with aluminum extrusion. A big thank you to him for some messages back & forth regarding a few things I was considering. Overall, my setup was very similar, though I did offset the center post to allow for a larger cavity on the left, thereby allowing 2 of the "Instacrate bins" from Costco/Sams to fit in landscape configuration. One fits in portrait configuration on the right.
The basics:
- 1010 extrusion for base
- Various connectors to allow for configuration changes
- 3/4" plywood top
- 1/2" closed cel foam
- Wrapped in outdoor fabric
- Turnbuckles used to attach to D-rings on floor
- Tnutz and thumb screws to attach frame to plywood
- Will add another sheet of plywood for sleeping configuration when camping and back seats folded down
- Plenty of room to cram in toolbags, camping chairs, camping hammocks, etc...
