all-terrain or mud-terrain that dont ruin the ride

I've no complaints about my Cooper ST Maxx's. Relatively quiet ride, handling hasn't suffered, and ride quality though a tad bit stiffer, feels well planted but not harsh. I actually prefer the slightly stiffer feeling myself as it's reassuring but not jarring (if that makes any sense).

Falken WildPeak AT3. Ridiculously quiet on the highway, depending on size you don't have to go to an LT construction unless you really need that load capacity. Check them out, particularly the price and reviews.

I run Toyo Open Country 10 ply at the moment. No issues at all on-road and off-road.

those are pretty cool - have you seen there M/T version ?

It actually looks pretty rugged but also like it might roll quieter than some of the other MTs

check these out:

ROAD VENTURE MT - Kumho Tire USA, Inc.

i wonder if those 35 x 12.50 x 18" tires will fit on my stock 99 LX without rubbing.

any ideas ?

sorry, actually i had just found those Kumho tires (which ive never seen or heard of) in addition to looking at these Falken MTs too.

I really like them both and their both cheap.. Prob means they suck

i think that, unless someone can vouch for these cool new MTs i have never seen (Kumho and Falken) OR Yokohama will hurry up and release the 35 different sizes they claim to be in the middle of rolling out for that super-awesome MT tire they just released ....

I think im leaning toward the KO2s

(which please tell me if im incorrect that the following isnt the size i should get for stock 99 AHC suspension: Sears.com )

I like the price and look and comments here on these Coopers STMAXX: (again please tell me if this isnt the size i should get). They dont even claim to be an "A/T" tire but they look pretty rugged

Cooper Discoverer ST MAXX 295/70R18

I think that my other potential is the Nitto Terra Grappler G2 ... or maybe the G3 - I like em both but the G2 seems capable, available, and fairly cheap.

Nitto Terra Grappler G2 295/70R18

I wouldnt say thats my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice yet but im leaning toward one of those.

Really want that new Yokohama though - sheesh that thing is baddarse

Is it weird that that new yokahama only comes in one size that fits an 18" wheel and that one size is 38 x 10.50 ... ?

there is no way i could put that on a stock suspension lx470, right ??
Nope, not without some serious Sawzall action...

You're not gonna fit 35s on a stock LX. I'm running 33s on my LX that has a 2 1/2" lift, and I won't go to 35s until I install a bodylift.

Late to the replies...now on my 5th set of BFG's and 3rd vehicle. The K02's are quiet, smooth riding tires. Excellent wet performance, great on dry pavement and excellent short of anything really muddy. They won't clear thick mud fast enough if you're looking to go muddin'...I use the hell out of them on sand and some clay/sand mix. 275/70/18 worked out very well with a bone stock LX470 with AHC.

I have a set of almost new 295/75/16 KO2s on SCS wheels for sale in the classifieds, and I would love to take a trip up to the Carolinas.;)

Got these Coopers for $530.00 out the door and they have been great!

Had STT Pro's on my Tundra and loved them. They are louder than any all terrains I ever had, but the ride is wonderful and they performed just as well on road as my dad's Tundra with Michelin highway tires. Off the pavement those things were beastly, they shed mud wonderfully and in sand couldn't be beat. And the STT Pro's look so good in my opinion, a very functional and aggressive stance.
On my 100 series I have the Cooper AT3's, and I think they're a great tire. I've stuck them in some thick black mud and they did great, honestly any mud that they're not prepared for I wouldn't want to be trekking through anyways. They definitely don't have the aggressive appearance as the other choices, but their performance should not be doubted.

And yes, I use my truck as an overlander.

I have run the Terra Grapplers and the Ridge Grapplers, both have been great. I got tons of life out of the Terras and they did well on and off road. I am on the Ridge Grapplers now. They seem equally great on and off road just a little beefier.

Though I haven't run them since I bought my 99 LC three years ago, I found the BFG KO's to be horrible on ice. I actually bought a used set of Michelins to run in the winter time for my previous rig (a 98 4runner). One option might be to have the KO's sipped. My brother did this to his last pair of KO's and said it really improved the winter performance. He sold his 4runner a year or so later so I don't know what the long term performance effect would be for ice and off-road.

FWIW, I'm seriously considering Michelin AT's for my next tire. 99% of my driving is on paved roads. My most extreme 4-wheeling is on "groomed" trials, like some of the passes around Telluride.

KO2 as an all around AT is pretty hard to beat. Good road manners, good offroad manners, 3ply sidewall and 50k+ mile life.

275/70-18 (33”) is prob the best choice on stock 4.10 gearing. If you go larger your acceleration and mountain pass climbs suffer unless you intend to regear. Taller tires will also increase your body roll, and a less “planted” feel.

I recently switched to an aftermarket 9” wide wheel so my K02’s are just under the limit on the wider wheel. Ive been eyeing the Cooper STT Pro which is more of a MT in a 285/65-18 which adds more width but a little less height (3/8”).
