yikes!!!!

back when i was young and stupid (i'm just old now), i crossed the checkimes river at night/winter time to get to butterfly lake. had it on video and you could see the tail lights go under water on a first gen toy.

btw if i have my new rig ready, i would like to join in this trip. its something i have been wanting to do for quite some time now.

Yes, there is water out there. The major crossing is of the Blackwater River. Its a fairly long crossing and while at that time of year the water will be lower....its nothing to be taken lightly. We will encounter a fair bit of water hazards on this trip.

i'm debating between 33 and 35" tires right now. will a set of fresh 33x12.5 mud terrain's be enough with a locked up rig?

Regardless of what tire you buy and the tread pattern it has, you will likely need to winch if it is wet.

Although they may not eliminate the need, Swampers will reduce the amount of winching significantly! :hillbilly:

My experience up there with my MTR with Kevlars is they will pack up with mud very nicely - and unless you have horsepower to spin them clear (which I don't) they not a big advantage - 4 greasy slicks.

The 33X12.5 will be fine.

Bring lots of extra winch line - a few mud holes are a long ways from trees - bring extra electric winch solonoids - I think we fried two sets up there, 1 at least

How many functioning winches do we have?

Deny bring your Swampers !!

I, as stated earlier, am out of damn near anything, including this.
Sass, 33" tires are fine and will require a little finesse, 35" are of course easier. If you are not changing gears, might want to stay with 33's and not sacrifice the crawl ratio.
Regardless of what tire you buy and the tread pattern it has, you will likely need to winch if it is wet. Yes, even with lockers, we had sections where everyone had to winch no matter what they were running.

Borrow Sopels truck (if he still has it) - adventures in life are passing you by....:frown:

at this point, i have zero winches on it as i just picked it up 3 weeks ago. a winch is in the plans but i'm addressing the tire issue first.

i firmly dont belive in electric winches so considering a mile marker.

btw is it always this soupy up there? how the hell did alex do it over a century ago?

Warn m8000 and 2-300 ft of synth line.

I would, and think the double locked with winch truck on 36 swampers would do well on that trail (wouldn't bring the trailer :hillbilly:), but don't think I can take that much time off in the summer, as it is work's busy season. I stick to wheeling on long weekends and hoping to spend September long in Tumbler.
Thanks for the invite though.
Cheers,
Deny

Could participants send me an E-Mail listing of their basic equipment they are bringing. It would be nice to know what resources we will have as a group.

1) make/model chainsaw, bar length, extra chain?, file kit? is it dependable?
2) winch type (if elec-have extra solenoids?), line length on drum, extra line, snatch blocks - is it dependable?
3) shovels (long handle preferred), axe, pruners, safety glasses
4) First Aid kits
5) First Aid accreditation.
6) Communications CB, VHF, SPOT
7) Hi Lifts
8) Fire Arms, Bear Spray, Bear Bangers
9) Extra Fuel
10) Water craft
11) Any on less than 33"s ?
12) the consensus is no trailers.

I have 3 replies so far - as of May 29

I am assuming everyone has tow points - fore and aft and tow straps and shackles.
If you sleep in your truck make sure you have mosquito netting for the windows.l

Thank you

I am going to have to pull out of this trip. I had no intentions of saying those words but there it is.

I can offer all sorts of excuses but I wont.

My apologies and I hope you all have a wonderful and safe trip!

Sorry to hear that Kim.
My summer plans have changed as well. Last week, I hit a deer while riding my m/c to work. Broken bike, broken arm and dead deer. I should be good to go for the trip though, just screws up the rest of my plans for the summer. More time to over think prep for this trip I suppose ;-)

Thanks wrongway. I did get lucky on that one. Didn't lay the bike down, the deer was a meat explosion though. I'll heal up, it's my Buell I'm worried about.....
Don't know if ICBC will fix or write it off. I really wanna get back on that horse and ride.:steer:

Good times.....good times......
It's all getting better, just driving me nuts 'cause I can't do anything with my hands. They're still pretty much like clubs.
