Hate to sound like a broken record, but no way I could do it this time, but I'm definitely going to try next time. Would it be possible to get a copy of the package to see what to plan for? Is the cost of a rental in the package? agharmon@wildblue.net

If anybody has a open seat, I am still looking for a ride. C'mon anybody?

I'll be up there anyways and I'll help pay for expenses.

If not, I may have to just modify the old 55 to do this trek.

Packet on it's way.

We haven't put much more thought into the idea of providing a rental rig(s). There is no info at all on that in the packet.

The cost is something that need to be looked at carefully, which at this point has not happened.

Hey DesertDude.. I just sent in my packet to Mark. My rig is set up similar to yours.. just not as good hah! I have the 4" Slee and 4:88's. You were disappointed in your Mud Terrains if I recall. I'm driving from Phoenix. If you had to do over again what would you use.. Thanks

I would consider an AT for the pavement ride up and back - and see if I could secure a set of swampers in AK only for the trail run.

Other than that, follow Marks advice very closely and you'll be fine ;)

also very interested in your views on this. I was considering strapping on a set of 35 Muds for this trip but if they don't work that great anyway, i sure as heck am not driving swampers to AK.

I would'nt drive swampers on the pavement either :)

I needed a tug only twice. That said, getting stuck in the mud is part of the experiance. We eventually made it through just like everybody else. Takes a bit of practice giving it gas, spining the mud out of the tires and gaining momentum through the sticky parts.

I wouldn't sweat it ;)

Desertdude.. Thanks for the advice.. also I have a RTT. Would I be better off going without because of the extra weight. How much do you think that made a difference in the mud? THanks.

The RTT was esential during the expedition style camping (pulling up stakes daily) I would not leave home without one.

We might have been the heaviest rig (Greg was quite full in his BJ74 as well)

Not much difference in the big picture - we had a ton of water and gas with us anyways. Looking back now, a heat exchanger type water heater for showers would be a better set up - along with pump and water filter for drinking ( AK has plenty of water) Eventually once up there we learned this. We brought along a "Little Giant" 110v pump. We ran this from the Invertor in the 80, to pump through the water filter and filled up jugs as needed.

Less is more on a trip like this - we travel with back packing type cooking stoves and gear. But the engel fridge and RTT made it deluxe ;)

...a life changing trip

The camaraderie of Mark, the Cruiser Crew along with Alaska will spoil you.

Not a day goes by without thinking of this experience - Wish we could be there in 2008
