Alaska Cruiser Trek 2008

This is just a sort of "pre-notification" so that people know that it's coming. I'll be making up an information/registration packet later for people to get signed up.

The 35 inch mud tire and single locker requirement has worked well for us to date. I don't expect to be changing that. For the most part we will be on river bottom and in higher rockier passes. But some of the river sections and crossings are rather sandy (sandy water crossings can be like quicksand sometimes). Additionally some of the trails that we would like to spend some time on in 2008 will be in muddy forested areas (muddier than what we saw in 2006).

But again, nothing is set in stone. a 33x12.50 mud tread is not different enough from a 35x12.50 that I would loose much sleep about it. But at some point I'll have to draw the line. You can argue that a 33x10.50 is not all that much different from a 33x12.50. You can argue that a 34x9.50 is not much different than a 33x10.50. You can argue... anyway, you see what I mean.

A rig with slightly smaller tires than everyone else would not be a major problem. But several of them would be. 15 rigs on 31x10.50s for example would force a change in agenda for the Trek.

I really don't want to start making exceptions. Especially this early. But I'd hate for someone to have to miss out on the Trek purely because they have brand new 33x12.50s and can afford to pick up a set of 35s that they have no need for except for the Trek.

I'll let everyone know

Alaska Trek

After retiring from the Fire Dept. this year, my first 2 trips planned were a leisurely trip through the smithsonians and a road trip to Alaska with my daughter (16). My sons graduation in Delaware this year made it too convient to skip the smithsonians. Sooooo hoping to do the Alaska Trip this year. My daughter is really excited about this since she has a driver's license now and sees all the miles that need to be driven

It's a trip that a 16 year old will remember for a LONG time. These girls had a BLAST. ;)

Mark, I was just curious how the selection process worked. Do you generally get more apps than spots. I understand the vehicle requirements... Bob

The first time around we were concerned about this. But in reality the cost, time, and logistics of making it up for this event keep the number of participants down.

If we do have more applications than we do slots then acceptance will simply be on a first come first served basis.

Need a Ride

I WANT TO GO ON THE ALASKA CRUISER TREK IN 2008!!!

But, I need a ride. My wife and I will be traveling in Alaska during the summer of 2008. We are taking a Cruiser up there but it just so happens that it is does not meet the requirements.

It will just be me, wife says that she will hang out somewhere else or stay in a hotel while I am off trekking. She is the greatest.

So, if anyone needs a co-pilot during the event only, let me know. I'd be willing to help out with fuel expenses if need be. Thanks.

John, tell me about your '55. Stock? if not... details.

Mark,
It's a 1978 and is bone stock right down to the hubcaps. It does have 31's but that's it. I have thought about a modest lift and running 33X10.50's but probably won't do that for awhile.

I'm gonna try and make this one. As long as I have the PS fenderwell done by then

...a life changing trip

The camaraderie of Mark, the Cruiser Crew along with Alaska will spoil you.

Not a day goes by without thinking of this experience - Wish we could be there in 2008

Okay... I was wondering if it might in fact have enough mods to handle the Trek. A stock '78 pig is one cool as hell rig. But probably a bit under capable for what we'll be doing. :(

We've always felt that it is the people who come up for the Trek that make it what it is.

Melanie actually asked me if I was sure that I wanted to do it again in '08. She figured that it would be tough for it not to be a let down from ACT 2006. ;)

Any chance a triple locked 100 on 35's could handle it? I'll have some kind of OME lift, sliders and some other stuff on it by then.

We are already planning to drive from Reno to Fairbanks next summer. Looks like Tok is on the way.

An '80 with lockers is an ideal rig for what we'll be doing next summer.
