Been wanting to change up my fuel return, which had been plumbed into the fuel line to the pump. Some were of the opinion that that was not ideal. Seems like after installing the 30% bigger injectors I have had a surging issue. So I finally got to running the return to the rear tank since that one is easier to access.
So I bought a fuel pickup for a HZJ75 hoping to be able to modify it to use in my original HJ75 tanks. As you can see these two are a bit different, and even if I were to successfully bend the new one to match the old pick up, the new one would have been too short.

So back to square one. Decided to use copper barb/90 degree elbow threaded into the top of the fuel pickup.

Test drive seems to show a total/mostly reduced surging. More driving will show over time if this did stop the surging.

Looks like the first project is done. Just need to get some hinges for the first step so you can open it up for storage. This a step to help in getting up/down from the “bedroom”. Next will be some kind of seating over the wheel wells. Time to clean up until I get back.

Left yesterday to go try out the Ute and the camping set up. Filled up both tanks and figured out the mpg for the first time. Mainly city driving with a couple of 60/100mi round trips hwy. 19.5mpg. Little better than the 2HT. Of course engine still isn’t broke in yet, maybe 2500mi on it.

Well, my original plan on how to build out the interior is a failure. I will see if I can move the spare to the rear left side where I placed the step stool/storage thing. Then I will build a box with a lid for the Porta potty and place it on the right side at the rear and turn that into a step stool instead, then build a bench across the rear with fold up seats to use the underneath as storage space. Then build cabinets down the rest of the right side. Then leave the rest of the floor open.

@coldtaco you could always use a household 2 step aluminum ladder. They take up very little room folded and would weigh a lot less than a plywood step. Just a thought. Not that it would make an appreciable dent in your 3 ton plus problem. :D

@coldtaco …. “I guess summer is over, was 35F this morning”.

We’ve also been in the 30’s almost everyday but unfortunately ours has been measured in Celsius. 😊
