Advice! Im considering buying a 1980 Toyota Truck for $5000

I think from what I see in the pics the truck was painted to cover up the rust. It's not a $5k truck, especially with the engine "improvements." If the truck was totally original, in good shape, maybe $5K.

This is great information, I really appreciate your honest opinion!

Looks like I'm still on the hunt for an early 80's Yota Pickup :poop:

What sort of shape was yours in when you bought it?

Anything obvious to look for on these? Thoughts on the price?

Mine is a one owner, Southern California truck with all documentation. Did I pay too much...yes. But unlike most here I wanted a grocery getter and a mostly stock truck.

Body condition is everything on these trucks as everyone has mentioned.

That is literally exactly what I'm searching for. Stock, no rust.

I'm taking referrals haha

I paid $5700 for our '83 last year, but now have close to $10,000 in it. On the plus side, everything is fixed except some minimal rust repair on the bed and the truck is running perfect. I recently bought a '87 Xtra cab SR5 (old Toy trucks are a disease), but we like the '83 better, so the '87 will go down the road soon.

I feel that $5000 may be a bit steep for that truck given what's covered up by the repaint. Maybe $3500-4000, but these things are so hard to find that you need to decide what price is good for you. It looks like you could also spend a bucket full of cash fixing up that truck, but again, it's your decision.

Thanks for taking time to send me advice and your personal experience!

I ended up not going with the one I posted originally, but the one I did get is awesome. I picked it up for $6500 from an awesome Toyota enthusiast in Tulsa, OK.

- 1983 4x4 (no-AC)
- 63k miles
- Minimal rust on cab
- Some rust on bed
- The interior is immaculate
