Man and I thought my grinding was done.....
I’ve had a bloody noise from breathing in the metal grindings. It’s fun for awhile, then back breaking and tedious to make it look nice. A plasma cutter is super helpful.

I saw a respirator that isn’t so bulky, that I’ll probably finally buy after I have no more grinding to do. But I’m definitely over grinding. Plasma cutter will be in my future after I get a better welder.

Before I welded the new hanger I welded the rest of that gusset to the frame, then welded the spring braket to that. I can PM you a pic if you’d like, I have the same bracket in pretty much the same spot.

I ended up taking it off, I figure the hanger will be a better gusset than the thin piece from factory is.

Mine hasn’t fallen off yet :meh:

I put that hanger so is it’s completely on that small plate. But I wanted to stretch my wheelbase a lot more.
I don’t know, do whatever you want.

I have a full face respirator I use for those operations where I need safety glasses and a face mask....a combo I've never been able to use without safety glasses fogging up. The one I bought has spin on filter cartridges and cost about $100 iirc. looks like this:

I’m horrible about PPE. No gloves, forget ear plugs all the time, and catch myself grinding without safety glasses. Respirator... forget about it. Someday perhaps.

So I ended up getting this guy https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OZZZ7JU/?tag=ihco-20... Fits nicely under my welding helmet (which is main reason I got it) and is quite comfortable to wear.
Originally I had purchased in preparation for my paint job that I did at the end of September (moved from August). One weekend I ran out of gas while welding so decided to switch to the flux core I had. Man was that a bad idea, not having a mask on while welding flux in a low ventilated area is a big no no. Couldn't figure out the next day why I felt like I got hit by a truck, lasted a couple more days then as I was thinking back on what I had done this was the only thing that was different. Didn't feel like I was getting sick either, just felt like I got slammed in the chest with a sledgehammer and sat on by an elephant for a few hours. Remember watching a video by ChuckE2009 on youtube about his welding ventilation system and why he did that after having welded for a while without one and how bad it was for you to inhale the fumes (he was specifically talking about welding galvanized pipe) and the effects he felt afterwards, which were almost exactly like what I felt.

Now I wear the damn thing whenever I am doing anything grinding, welding or spraying related.

Galvanized is a totally different story. Cutting that with a oxy/ acetylene torch could kill you.

Right I understand that, just was using it somewhat as a reference point when I was trying to figure out wtf had hit me. I was not welding on galvanized pipe but figured that the gas from the flux core welding could potentially do the same thing.

Also guys be careful of what you spray on your metal before welding it NO BRAKE CLEANER I have welded galvanized steel it is very bad for you welding in general is bad stick welding is horrible also i am a self taught welder been mig welding for years i had never stick welded before was going to take on a subcontracted gov job and everything had to be stick welded so i would weld for hours just burning up 7018 rods by the pounds out in my small shop would come in whipe my face off and the towel would be completely black. While you weld you should try the best you can not to be over top of what your welding be more off to the side.

So here is an update. It’s been a while since I’ve updated been a lot of ordering parts and researching small stuff. Also a lot of cleaning parts and prepping for reinstalls and rebuilds. But Christmas Eve was a big day, I got the rear axle rebuilt and mounted under the rig. She is going to sit tall! I’m pumped. It’s coming together nicely. While I have your attention, and recommendations on where to get the driveshaft hardware, nuts bolts and such? What size and thread pitch are they, hardware stores were a no go. But here is some pictures.

Pictures didn’t come thru on my phone, maybe that’s the problem. As far as the driveshaft I took mine to a driveshaft shop locally. They’ll have everything you need plus be able to lengthen yours. They are putting a DC joint on the front driveshaft.
