ABS brake actuator pump for 1997 FZJ80 Tank (part #44510-60010)

Greetings, Land Cruiser gurus,
The brake actuator pump on my 1997 FZJ80 (part #44510-60010) has failed and requires replacement. My local Toyota mechanic says that it's an obsolete part that's no longer available from Toyota, but that if I could find a used one, he would be glad to install it. I've found some on E-Bay, but all the ones I've seen so far are for FZJ80 models with LOTS more miles than mine has -- which makes me feel as though I would be jumping "out of the frying pan and into the fire." Does anyone know where I can purchase a new one, or at least one that has been rebuilt or remanufactured? At the very least, just finding one that someone has carefully inspected and determined to be in good serviceable condition would be better than nothing. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer in this matter.

I believe most people in this situation delete the ABS system. I'm with you, I can't see buying a very expensive used part and not knowing if it will last.

I have a used one with less than 200k on it I would sell cheap. I deleted abs and have never been happier with the brakes on the truck, but the abs pump was working fine. Its not a part that fails frequently, most are removed because they are difficult to bleed and lead to a mushy pedal feel once they get air in them. I would have no problem installing a used one - just like anything, I would rather have a good used OEM part than any non-toyota reman.

A couple of people who have removed their ABS units sent them to me for free with me paying shipping. Mine has a non-operable electric motor.

Just follow the threads about deleting the ABS to find someone willing to send you theirs. Otherwise, they just toss them.

Of the two that were sent to me, one had a bad electric motor, but the other was fine.

The electric motor can be rebuilt (>$300) but no guarantee that the rest is good.

I will probably take the bad one apart to see how it is designed and to see if it is repairable.

It's possible that your ABS pump failed in the same way that mine did, which means it's an easy DIY fix. Basically, it's pretty common for loose rust to block the motor and all you have to do is clean the rust out and then the pump will work fine again. After cleaning and application of rust converter my ABS pump has been working well for 5 months and should be good for years to come.

The pump is available. It took me 4 months to get one in but it is available. Maybe at the time the were out of production.

Where did you order your from, if you don't mind me asking? I replaced mine with used a few years back but it's failed again, and puked debris into the master cylinder and reservoir. I've found the part online at a few dealers, but the price varies a good bit.

I did back in May of 2024 from Ourisman Toyota and it was cancelled.

Well, they've adjusted the price, so someone's keeping up with it. Also, Ourisman can't buy from SET or GCT, so that doesn't mean one of them won't have it. A call will confirm or deny.

I've had a similar experience, two attempts to get this ordered online. First its in stock, then its backorder, after a month or so the cancelation email comes.

I ended up getting a take-off from someone who was removing their ABS. I haven't been able to find a new ABS pump..

I ran my own auto repair shop for a number of years, this is what i found when it came to keeping my customers ABS systems alive. Most of my customers were pretty good about staying on top of engine oil changes, a few did okay when it came to doing coolant changes.

But in the case of brake fluid, that was ALWAYS the forgotten fluid, and they always forgot to change it. I told them that fresh brake fluid was clear in color, many were surprised when i told them that, many thought it was brown in color so they could see how full their system was.

I told them that brown color in their master cylinder reservoir was coming from their brake system rusting from the inside out due to moisture in the fluid. In the case of a non ABS brake system running degraded brake fluid is a bad idea, But in the case of a ABS system, running this rust and moisture filled fluid through their ABS system was beyond a VERY expensive and BAD idea.

I use to tell my customers they needed to have a complete brake flush, and refill done on their ABS system every 2 years, or 30000 miles, whichever came first, if they wanted to prevent doing damage to their ABS system..

So if you want to prevent problems in your trucks ABS system, the best thing you can do is get into the habit of doing regular fluid changes. Just my 2 cents YMMV
