Hi everyone.

New here, but have used this site for years.

My 1999 TLC just got a quote for replacing the booster pump, $2550 Prosper Toyota.
The ABS, Brake lights on, alarm buzzing, dropped pedal and all.

Any other options here in DFW area? Can I buy a rebuilt one or/and find another mechanic to do it a bit less?

Thanks
Lito

do you remember where they ship from? what state? trying to figure the time frame to ship and get a mechanic to do it.

ADR Imports, Maspeth New York, 11378. Free shipping, took 3 days to me in Raleigh NC.

I did a booster pump this week. Went with recycled w/190K miles on it, only one around. Replacing one with 250K miles on it, that had dead spot on commutator. The replacement had much more material left on it's commutator, but still it life will be shorter than a new.

I carefully drill out these screws and pack new screws & nuts in with dielectric grease. I'm finding this corrosion in ~40% of 100 series to one degree or another.

Thank you!

So I got everything back together (rewound abs pump, new piston) and now the piston sticks at full brake pedal depression. The brake pedal had very little pressure, but it sticks all the way in.

I don't think bleeding the system will fix that. I think the next step is to take it back out and reinstall the piston, correct?

Assuming you assembled correctly, I'd go ahead and flush then see how it works afterwards.

Thanks @2001LC. I'll try that first before taking it back out.

The abs pump does seem to be working properly, as I can hear it and the accumulator vibrates, but the pedal is now very weak (understandable) and it gets stuck when fully depressed. It's the getting stuck part that concerns me, but I'll bleed the system and then see what happens.

I am informed the Toyota dealer uses a PC to bleed it. To Bleed ABS Brakes Using Toyota Tech Stream (TIS) Software.

Well, I feel like the village idiot, but the problem was that I did not have the end of the piston properly seated inside the spring at the base of the master cylinder.

In trying to get the snap ring back out, it took a bit of hammering and with the new piston not seated correctly, that destroyed both components.

Time to get a whole new brake booster.

Pics to hopefully help the next guy not make the same mistake.

So I bought the ebay refurb one from toycrf for $225, don't buy from this vendor, the units don't fit and are too short. Also won't respond to my messages about a refund. Thats $225 down the drain.

So now here are my options: In no rush as I have another vehicle besides the LX.

1 - $350 from Karpartsaddictions via ebay + $75 core return.
2- $275 ish shipping to Eurtron Motor repair in CA. Would have to send the motor to them + 7-10 days + another 5 days for shipping back.

How does the armature/motor look? Its not the worst looking, I still had brakes but the techstream indicated something wrong with my brakes and with a loud buzzing noise. Looks like its on its last legs though right? Had 175k miles on the 2002 LX
