If you end up needing the whole motor, I got mine from wholesalepartsexpress.com in south Florida. It was around $450.

Thanks but I ended up buying a whole new assembly from Lexus a while back.

I didn't have a motor issue but a pressure sensor issue that was non-serviceable/inside the black box.

Here's what I suggest you do:
1 - Check brake oil. It might just be low or there might be leak in the system somewhere (think about rusty lines)
2 - Check each wheel to see if the brake fluid is leaking from a caliper or a soft line
3 - Test booster function:
  • Turn off your engine, take the key out and press the brake pedals repeatedly for about 40 times (yes forty 40!!) or until you feel the brake pedal starts going soft.
  • Now, open the hood and turn the key to ignition position (you don't have to start the engine) and listen for a whirring sound (of a motor running). Count how many seconds the motor runs before stopping
  • if it runs close to 40 seconds than your booster motor is fine.
  • if it doesn't run at all or run much longer that 40 seconds then you have a bad booster

No leaks and fluid level looks fine...
Booster function test...right around 40sec give or take...was tested 2-3 times over a few days...does 40sec put it in the 'iffy' category?
The abs light, brake light, buzzer condition is OFF

I did order the MC unit from McGeorge and getting labor quote to replace...looking to schedule for next week.
Anything else to consider? Would a dealer be able to run a techstream on the ABS system to diagnose the previous condition 'faults' and confirm anything?
Thanks

That looks promising. Yes the dealer should be able to hook up the Techstream but not sure if there is any historical trace they could look at.

Help! Total brake failure with all the usual lights and dash alarm, fortunately it happened in the driveway.

Is anyone able to get a new OEM master cylinder? According to Toyota, the part is backordered with unknown restock date, and I am on a waitlist.. All the while my truck sits in the driveway with no brakes.

This is my daily so I need to do something asap. I'm looking online, ebay has a refurbished unit from a decent looking seller. Anyone hear of LexusOEParts.com ??? they apparently have a new MC unit, but I can't get a good read on the site - legit? scam?

Thanks in advance!!

Unbelievable that this truck would have such a problem. It was actually my wife who first discovered it when she was going to leave the house. Lucky she didnt leave, and called me outside to investigate. Of course, I decided to would at least take it around the block slowly to see if I felt a difference on brakes, given all the dash lights. aaaaand I didnt make it out of the driveway before realizing the brakes were completely gone. So there it sits. 😭

Sorry you have to deal with this, but the reality is that a 100% of these trucks will suffer from this BS around 200k miles.
Can't tell you anything abt LexusOEparts, but another member here bought theirs from Camelback Toyota. If your local stealership is not willing to get you one, try online retailers like Camelback, McGeorge etc.

Look here for the current prices on the whole booster assembly, they have come down significantly

Thank you! and you must know your stuff - I'm right at 195k ! Hopefully I will not have to deal with this for another 200k

Interestingly enough - I had a local "ToyoTech" shop order the part from Toyota yesterday, just to at least get my name on the waitlist. He nor I ever received any update on ETA or restock, but the part arrived to his shop this morning! WOOHOO!! Getting the truck towed there asap. I need my baby back!

Kinger - did you get a quote on what the part cost you? And does the shop have any idea on labor? My truck has been out of commission for a month due to this... :(

Dang!! thats terrible, I'm sorry to hear it. I never realized this was such a widespread issue. The part was $1,700 and the shop quoted me around $300 for labor I think. Good luck to you!

Ended up replacing just the pump with the motor above and that fixed it. I didn’t have to remove the master cylinder and that was a huge plus. It’s a difficult job that took around 4 hours taking small mental breaks here and there lol.
