Getting the chicken mansion buttoned up. Hit it with main base coat. Trim will be in black. Has a coop section, run section, and storage/ egg collection area. 24’x8’. Trying to wrap this up so I can get to much needed SAS maintenance on Kermit. Rain has not helped. Still need to install Dutch doors, hardware cloth and roof. It will have screened windows for light/ ventilation.
Nice work. I will need to build a new coop soon to replace the cheap one that I bought my wife to start with. I already replaced the run when I built a new goose coop and run. FWIW, I used this PVC coated hardware cloth with 1/2" square openings. I even put it on the bottom of the run under a few inches of dirt so nothing could dig in. It has held up really well but it is a bit on the pricey side.

This is The Way. We have had all kinds of things try and dig/burrow under, to no avail. Up to and including feral hogs.
I didn't know you could get PVC-coated hardware cloth though; that is a good idea. We just used bare hog panels for ours, buried at least 12" deep, I don't remember for sure now.

Last coop I built I dug a small trench/footer and back filled it with broken beer bottles and discarded and smashed ceramic tiles. Seeing blood in the dirt a couple times was such a reward.

2010 Tundra 320k miles. Second time I got a misfire code owning it. Bought it at 200k miles. Both times plugs came loose and had blow by to contaminate the coil pack. PO had some after market plugs on. Plug on the left had a loose ignition tip. Replacing with Denso OEM and goodantight
Not the E3s! You’ll lose 50hp switching from those
Those multi-electrode plugs are ghey.

The math never maths whether you have a Temu coop or any other. Knowing where your eggs come from is priceless to me. No glyphosate rich corn fed eggs. Building an Amish chicken feed garden to feed them year round without grain feed. Google it. Eggs are very high value in my diet. No need for big pharma pills. It’s complete.

I concur, chickens are also amazing at insect control, aeration of the soil and fertilization. We’ve also fed quite a few foxes, coyotes, raccoons, possums and hawks over the years.

Very nice work. You are welcome to build another one at my place anytime! Just one quick question, I assume you blocked or screened in between the rafters above the walls? Rat snakes are great climbers, as are rodents.

Every inch, any and all gaps in rafters have hardware cloth. I went through 5000 1.5” staples. Each staple spaced three squares. It’s tight. As I was doing it a friend shared he lost 15 chickens. Just never want that to happen.
I am humbled by your carpentry skills. Mine fails by a mile compared to yours. I would be downgrading your home development if I built one. It would be nice to visit one of these days and do a cook in the shed! Never been to your neck of the woods.
Don't underestimate your skills my friend. That's first rate work. Not sure when the cook shed will be up and running but as soon as I get the decking laid on the other half of the roof I'm going to start laying out some CMU - per my youngest son's plans. But you are welcome to visit anytime; especially if you know how to lay block or brick.
Laying brick and finishing sheetrock are skills that I have never mastered.

I added some extra pics of the coop features in the above post. Ha! Unfortunately never laid block or brick! Can do Sheetrock. Love adding to my tool collection as I do things. I really like the chisels you bought. Feels like you can be a master at fine wood work with those, but it takes mastery! YT vids make it look so easy, especially with the Japanese wood workers!
