Taking delivery of new Thor Axis soon. Want to flat tow my 2000 LX470. Will need a good braking system for it. Any new input here?

I’ve had my Blue Ox Patriot Brake for ~6 years and it’s worked great for us.

One tip you didn’t ask for but I’d offer - be sure you have room in your GCVW limits for the 100. It’s got an 8k rated hitch but you might not have 8k in actual capacity in real world weight.

My 2000 LX470...
345,000 miles. Drives fantastic! Everything works except for the antenna motor. I will never part with it!

RVI brake3 is what I use. The brake system in the 100 series makes it somewhat difficult to use the coach side air brakes. Mostly, i used the RVI system to stay legal and as an emergency brake system in the ultra-rare chance of the toad disconnecting while under way.
 
Does anyone have a base plate for the 100 series that they are willing to part with? I'd like to buy a used one. Just bought a 100 series with 310k on it, awesome SUV. Plan on flat towing behind a motorhome. Blue ox or Roadmaster, it doesn't matter. Thanks in advanced! :)

I’ve been flat towing my 100 for over 2 years now with a Dissent off road front (and rear) bumper system. I’ve been using the Patriot brake system from blue ox with a 12v wire from the MH to the LC battery. For brake and signal wire I’ve been using a wireless rechargeable tow light. That light gets kind of hard to see with our bike rack (and 6 bikes) installed so I wanted to see what would be required to install a diode kit and tow light wiring. I already have the plug on the front of the LC bumper. I’m just curious if anyone has wired in the running, brake and turn signal lights with a diode kit? If so would love some pictures or a write up of the install. TIA

Diode lights are pretty easy, you’ll need to basically run a flat 4 wire trailer harness to the rear of your vehicle, then splice in the diodes. 2 beer job etrailer has good video tutorials. The hardest part for me was deciding to drill the Hole for the 6 pin trailer connector in my Dissent bumper on my 470.

Yeah, I ended up installing it in one of the procut holes on the bottom of the bumper, only thing I drilled was the screw holes. I’ll send a picture in a few minutes. How hard was it to route the wires into the tail lights? Did you run the wire under the truck all the way to the wiring harness under the tail lights? Or were you able to tie in up front or get the wires into the cabin?

12guns-Please do some better research when it comes to our 100's. Sorry but your information is wrong when it comes to a 100 and transfer cases. If you are flat towing an 88 Oldsmobile then yes you need to pull the driveshaft. However, on our 100's the driveshafts are connected to the transfer case and not the transmission. Once you put the t-case in neutral then the transmission isn't doing anything-that's why we tow with it in Park. Search on here and you will find out this to be true.

And no need for me to call a transmission shop as I used to own one.

Hi, I should be able to tow my 78 with manual transmission without any problems right? Any suggestions?

Not a dumb question at all. With transfer in neutral, transmission doesn’t matter but I always ran my tranny in neutral
