The quality of the manuals is much improved over the original scans but still leaves something to be desired. They came from a Toyota "Fax-Back" service where you can get 1 manual at a time faxed to your number. I had them faxed to my PC so they arrived as multi-page TIF images with my phone number on each page. I had to edit each page (over 100 pgs!) with a graphics editor to remove the phone number, then save as individual pages (SW limitation), then combine the individual TIFs back into a multi-page TIF, then "print" to a PDF printer to create the final documents. Then each manual had to be uploaded to the web site and my ISP has a "governor" on the upload speeds so loading to the web site was really slow. Then the web site filled up the allocated space and I had to start over and set up another web site and revise all the pages to point to the new web page.
So I've read through the install manual an what I have is sorta the right thing except the installer didn't feel like putting the contoller under the front chair. I haven't disected the front panel yet but am concerned that one of my range issues might be that when the antena wire was routed it is coiled up because of the location of the controller under the dash. Right now I enjoy a 10~12 foot range consistantly and occasionally more or even less. How are your remotes working? My Mther-in-law's BF has about 100 feet with his Chevy pickup.
Hmmm this got me thinking, I wonder what happened to the 97 RS3000 Alarm manual I scaned years ago....someone had it posted/hosted on a web site someplace......not important but I forgot all about that.....
In mine the antenna is "bundled" in the alarm wiring harness. It runs along the LH front door sill and then heads under the seat. Mine is a TVSS as opposed to a VIP (Toyota Vehicle Secutity System/Vehicle Intrusion Protection) IIRC, the VIP is the same way. If the alarm ECU is up under the dash instead of under the driver's seat, that could be the cause of your "range" issue.

Mine is the RS3000 and will reach about 50' with a new battery but a longer range doesn't help much because it will relock if you don't open a door within a few seconds.

My range has been as bad as standing next to the truck and pressing repeatably and finally getting it to unlock on the 3rd or 4th try :'(. I'm moving the module to it's correct location ASAP!
WaHoooo!!!!!! My FOB is remotetastic! Nothing like properly installing a system to have it work correctly ! Everything from the kick panel on was correct however the wire was looped repeatably around all kinds of other wires. Haven't seen a tangled mess like that since the last time my wife had me check her.....ah never mind. Any way thing works great. About 35 feet in front and 25 feet at the rear diagonal corner. Couldn't be happier.

Well first of all when you push the FOB button does a red led light up on the FOB? If it doesn't then the FOB is at fault. If it does then using the install manual I'd go through and check the installation. They use those crimp splice connectors and I'd check them out real close as they aren't the best connection. Be aware there are several sizes of those connectors and they need to match to the guage of the wire being crimped. I had to remove the crimps that went to the piezo because the wire gauge difference between the module and the piezo was so different it didn't work all the time.
My piezo hasn't worked in the 2+ years I've had my truck. Personally, I don't like the chirp so I wouldn't fix it anyway.

Carefully go through all the manuals. I haven't even looked at the troubleshooting guide as it was for all different models and seemed very basic at first glance.
I suppose it could be an alarm ECU failure that happened with a voltage spike or something related to the battery disconnect. Is there someone in your local club or area that could let you do some part swapping? If not, dig in to the manuals and keep us posted.
Beowulf, I went to your website, but couldn't download the manuals. I tried right-clicking, save target, etc nothing worked. All I could save was an HTML of a page saying "click here to download XXX.pdf".

It appears that the web hosting service is blocking access to PDF's. They have started blocking other file types and now this. Looks like they need to be moved to another hosting service. I will look around...
