Awesome build! Thank you for sharing your hitch idea. I'm thinking of running something similar for my LJ71, though not for towing. I'm mostly trying to prevent rude NYC'ers from using my bumper as a parking guide!

The box looks good! And that's a clean job with the relay set, as well. Question: what carpet did you use? It looks like a pretty good match in the photos.

It's just some speaker carpet I had left over from the gull wing box I did. I can look it up if needed. LMK.

Yeah, see if you can find out what it is, if you don't mind; it looks like a decent match for the factory stuff, and I might have a need for that in the near future.

Finally finished the wiring for the 24-12v trailer step down.

Camry harness worked a champ. Actually ended up using the Curt brand vs the one E-trailer sells due to availability. Curt's part number is 55358.

Temp wiring to test the entire box and relay logic >

Phew... worked.

Think it was around this point I decided to add a switch.

Yanked a Japanese electric toll system I don't think I'll be using much. Interesting to me that it's Toyota branded. Cute.

Repaired all the stereo wiring. Most of the wires were just twisted together with a tiny piece of electrical tape over them. No pictures. I was to disgusted.

Made a little bracket to mount the 7pin off two bumper bolts (will pull and paint next weekend).

Final box. Lid is tight fitting plus added 70 pound magnet mounts to two sides.

All closed up and wire looms hidden good enough for who it's for .

Then some Front Runner generic SUV drawers showed up. Wish I put that switch on the side now. Had originally thought I'd get the shorter Dobinson drawers and I like to see the switch position while I'm driving. Always paranoid I forget to turn it on/off while I'm driving. It's still usable but not so great with the larger FRO stuff.

Test tow. Kept telling the ol' lady I needed to get this done so I can do a dump run and pick up crap from the hardware store. Really just want to use it on a mid July trip. Hard to go back to a ground tent after the roof/trailer top tent. So went to the damn Homer D and bought a few chunks o lumber.

Couple little things off the list. Added sound deadening (Second Skin Damplifier Pro) sheets to the front inner door shells. Replaced the runs and window weather stripping while I was at it. Not sure how much quieter the overall rig is, but the door closing sound went from 'ting-rattle' the 'thud-no rattle'. Dig that. Have enough to do the other inner doors and qtr panels left. Then have their thinner peel/stick stuff and their MLV+Foam to replace all the OEM floor jute with. No pics. Boring.

The back panel of the FRO generic medium SUV drawers rattled super bad. It was just riveted to the rear supports. So I pulled it off, added two sheets of second skin then screwed it down more better. Also boring but have pictures to show FRO.

R/R both visors! LHD wouldn't stay put. Both were in good shape just one crack in the plastic mount causing that frustration.

Added the Escape Gear Dash Pad. Eight week wait for it. Holds two full bags of cooked tater tots in the pockets. So it was worth it.

After seeing several side of the road dead deer on last weeks camp/road trip... decided I'm getting rid of the front porch/fat lip bumper. Maybe swap the ARB off the 77 to the 73 then a better approach angled bumper for the 77? Or another ARB. Something tho.

Also going to pull the aluminum running boards. Is there an OEM non-running board front mud guard for fender flared rigs? No little running board hot pockets needed. Search turned up nothing so far.

Catching up on this thread. Had to scroll through phone pics to remember what I've done... Mostly been driving it.

Swapped in the proper rear amber lights around August >

Then I yanked the running boards and added spacers (not a huge spacer fan either... but it feels and looks better).

Then I joined the steering column hole plug club.

Last week I received a little care package from Dave. So, a quick little Back in Black Project started Saturday.

Beautiful rig @Guyute ! Coming along very nicely!

Did you find electronic mirrors in black or are those the manual versions?
Also did you happen to save your order list for the FRP seals? I'll probably be lifting my top off next summer and I'm sure it could use some new rubber.
Cheers!

Thank you.

Went with the manual mirrors and the plug/cover to eliminate the dash controls.

Found most of the FRP and sliding window part numbers using Partsouq diagrams then Dave filled in the rest. Ordered it all through Japan4x4 along with metric sh1tton of 1hz parts for my rebuild. So that pack list is going to be bonkers. I'll see what I can figure out this weekend and get back to you. Haven't messed with any of that yet so it's all in a box. Could snap you some pictures too.

Right on. I have a pair of manual black mirrors I'll probably replace my electric chrome's with too.

No sweat on the seals! I'm going to dive in to the diagrams and see if I can work up a list myself. I've got plenty of time before that top is coming off ❄️

Cheers Guyute! *is that a phish reference?! 🐖

Found some emails with seal part numbers. I'll post up here in a few.

Yeah. Fell in love with FJ55's for a long while. Named my bastard-Frankencruiser '72 'Guyute' the Ugly Pig.

It would be interesting to see how many 55 guys came over to the 70s side. They are visually very similar. 55s had to be Toyotas 70 series design cue right?

I know a few, @Guyute @RHINO @Kaderabek (for a little while) I’m sure there are more I’m forgetting.
