You can easily fit a 80 on a 16' like Steve uses or a 18' like mine it's a wood deck equipment trailer. having towed all kinds of trailers all my life and putting over 30K miles on this one, I can say it's a lot easier to navigate a smaller trailer in standard gas stations and when you want to stop at your favorite barbecue spot for lunch ;)

How the hell do your pipes not freeze in winter?
Technology is amazing.

My goal today is to stab the engine and get it 3-pointed. I will take my time putting everything back together and getting her running. Still a lot to do.
The interior is taken apart, seatbelts need to go back to safety restore for round two, diffs need to come out for regear, suspension needs attention and something’s removed and other things added, and a lot more but the obvious is the drivetrain.

Once I get her in today, I’ll be able to settle down and get busy with everything else.

Still looking for a trailer to tow my cruiser with as well. I’m finding many options out here. None as fancy as what @Feldrian bought. I’m spending about half or less of what he did. I’m thinking 20ft, double axle, power brakes, wooden platform, simple. I won’t use it often enough to justify a higher build but I can still use it for my farm equipment needs and errands around here.

Time to get to work!
It wasn't that much more than a "regular" car hauler.

Overkill. Always. And it has rub rails 😍

Easier, sure. Not really that big of a difference though. I'd bet there maybe 2' of difference between the ball to axle distance between a 16' and a 20'.

I’m full of excuses. I don’t want to clean. I just want to install. I’m lazy okay? you got me :flipoff2:

@Broski and @baldilocks ill probably hit you both up for some pointers on the trailer info. I definitely want to keep things simple. I have no need for anything fancy but it would be nice to be able to have room for a container or two for gear.

I’ll be shopping for one in the next two weeks so I have some time. I will be storing mine outside but under the cover of a large lean-to.

You are already over thinking it. It’s a trailer. Mine is 20 feet from tongue to tail lights. Cost me $3200 back in 2010.

So $12k today. Got it. Thanks

First attempt at stabbing the drivetrain was a failure.

My wife and I wrestled with it for a couple of hours but it beat us. I did a couple of things wrong and learned some lessons. Had to take the assembly back out and reset. Taking a break now and will reattack soon. I need a drink.

The whole drivetrain twists counter-clockwise (as viewed from the rear). In order to align it, I needed more leverage from the aft but couldn’t get it without compromising the front end and potentially damaging the firewall. I also fudged the leveler and had the handle side facing the wrong way which took up valuable space.

Swapped the leveler around and will try again. This is challenging but in a good way. Wish us luck we get it on the next go.

If you haven’t take the radiator support out
It well be worth the extra effort

Pretty sure he needs a trailer in Tennessee
Pretty sure trailers can be delivered 😜

But why, plus everything is more in Calif. I sure you can get a trailer for less in Tennessee then any of the western States ;)

And don't tell me Pell hates money 😝

Amazing. I’m basically expecting this at this point:

After a full day of battling myself, she’s in.

A couple minor mishaps. No damage to
The cruiser or parts except a couple of gouges on the starter. Lightly crushed my finger enough to make me feel extremely lucky.

The drivetrain fought us all day. Everything we did that we thought was intuitive produced the opposite result. When we wanted to adjust the front of the engine 9 o’clock position clockwise and down, we’d swing the transfer case in the opposite direction and play with it up or down to see how it would make the front of the engine react.

Basically it became a delicate balancing act of gentle up and downs for both the engine and transfer case until the perfect climax was met and she slid into place somewhat willingly. I had to use every bit of my strength to push and pull and twist. What ended up working was my wife’s idea. She said, “let’s do everything opposite of what we think is intuitive and see what that lends us”. I also called @slow95z who gave us some solid pointers and got us moving in the right direction. Thank you, Chris.

That drivetrain is a heavy and long bitch. She wants to twist and turn and move up and down. I had zero fun today turning wrenches but I feel good getting this part behind me. It only took 8 hours or something, which isn’t bad for my first time!

Nice work! Check that box.

Thanks buddy! I’m done for today. Work starts again tomorrow but I’ll find time to tinker here and there. Still lots to do. Come over and lend a hand!

Transfer case lever installed. Transmission lever and center console installed. Rear driveshaft installed. Forward driveshaft installed. I hate installing driveshafts. HATE. It. Heater control valve and heater hoses installed.

Then 5x of these came in. OMG they’re YUGE.

Wheels? Those are big. My gawd. Hurry up! I want to see this thing super beastly and painted some weird Audi or Porsche gray already!

Where you going on those 37’s??? You have officially broken the Mud record for most oem parts purchased in a single year maybe six months. I don’t know but my steering pump banjo bolt was still good brother. At this point your decision has been made to use Toyota red. If you don’t this whole thing will be for naught.
