Dealt with the lack of cup holders today. Moved the drivers side one to the pass side and hacked, i mean hacked, together this monstrosity.
I made a bracket for the front one out of the white plastic and used the metal bracket on the drivers side it previously occupied to attach the rear holder. Its sturdy as hell and I had all materials in the garage.
I really do have to clean it up a bit one day........... or just sticker the crap out of it.
Made the front skid today. Its pretty, 1/4" hardened steel pretty lol. Lifted the front of the 3 ton 80 w it and it did not bend. Thats without the angled piece welded in....
Should do for gettin in and out of the driveway this winter.
Cut the frame flush.
Templated it up.
Cut/weld (Army Steve stopped by). Couldn't drill the hardened w/o killing all my bits so I just slotted it and used nice thick washers.
Really? Im guessing your referring to the two lines under the rad? If so I'll have to speed hole it up a little. Has to wait till I get the plasma back though, this crap is too hard for a hole saw. There is still a good 2" gap at the end of the winch plate in front of the rad and you can see said lines so I'm thinking air can still circulate........
Messed around w the hood today. I took it down to bare steel wherever there was a rust bubble then applied a thin coat of bondo, sanded for about 25 hrs, primed, rockerguardeded, and painted.
Turned out half assed. F'ed up in a couple spots but now I know what to do next time. I still have to do the clear but am going to wait till a get a few more panels done.
I'm on strike right now so I have a little free time.
I have to decide what to do about a couple things now. One is the fender flare mount holes. The p/o covered them w tape then rocker guarded them. It seems to have held up ok but id like to do something a little more permanent since the flares will never go back on there. I could go all out and weld them up but that seems like a pain although it would be best.
Two is what to do w the rear quarters. Ps side is ok but the drivers side inner fender and rocker are a little swiss cheesy. I am contemplating taking a couple inches out of the quarter/inner fender. This would eliminate the rust and clearance things a little.
Three is the roof rackal area. Im planning to remove the rack, clean, tape, prime, rocker guard/bedline, and reinstall the rack.
Four would be the bottom of the drivers door. Its holy along the bottom and I'd like to cut out the old steel. I have a piece of 2" x 1/8 flat bar that should fit in there nice. Again primer, rocker guard, paint over that. Actually I plan to get rid of the two tone scheme its sporting now and go all slate metallic.
Five, and its the big daddy one, would be the front and rear window rust repair. I don't have much to say about this cause I'm scared.
I was going to push on w body work today but my buddy is dragging me to Toronto to see Rancid and Rise Against. We leave at two, but I'm tempted to give er on a nasty rust bubble located on the ps rear door......
I dont know about the moose, theyre pretty tall dude. I'm guessing an arb would crumple like tinfoil if you hit a bull on the hwy lol. A buddy in a full sz chevy 4x4 hit one a while back and the whole front end of the truck was mangled as well as the a pillars and part of the roof. You gotta remember, when you hit a moose the bulk of the animal will more than likely be at hood/window level. My bumper probably wouldnt do a thing to help me in that situation.
It is freaking stout though. I'm not worried about the winch box or the skid lol. Otherwise its pretty stubby which is what I was going for.
As far as updated go, rise against blows goats.
Oh, I managed to fix the rust and paint the cowl between the hood and windshield before leaving friday. I'm considering working on a couple other areas today if hockey falls through.
I fxxxing hate rust!
Also, I think I like the flat look of the new paint. I may not do the whole clear coat thing after all.
Well Pete came over and motivated me do dig into the body work again.
We ripped off the bumper, lights, signals, grille and markers so we could get at the sheet metal under the grille. This area was prepped while I welded the flare holes shut. We dealt w all the wheel well rust as well. Primer, rocker guard, paint (under the grille and lights) and another half assed job is off the list.
Well i managed to somewhat improve a huge rust blister on the ps rear door. Looks a little less like crap now. Did the bottom of the rear hatch and deleted the toyota emblem but kept the LC badge. There is also a small dent on the tailgate that got some lovin. Same as before, take down to steel, prime, bondo (satan invented that poop!!!), sand, bedline/paint. I kind of gave up on the bondo and it shows lol. No more rust and that was the main goal here.
Mounted the front plate to the bumper and removed one rear jump seat. Lubed ds door window.... I think thats it.
