Do you generally go with a external fuel pump or setup one in the tank? IF so which fuel pump do you prefer to use..?

I prefer an external pump due to the ease of access in case of maintenance being required. I am beginning to re think that position due to the noise though. The still make noise in take but it does not seem to be so strong. I like Walbro products, cant recall the part # off the top of my head, I need coffee.

I use an external walbro pump too...never had any issues with it...its lasted the entire life span of my engine swap. I was too lazy at the time to mess with an (in-the-tank) pump setup. You can hear my pump whine but its not too noticeable....at least on my truck...as I have plenty of other noises going on.

NCFJ, I wanted to keep the original FJ60 gauges. Besides, buying one tachometer (that you would probably buy with a V8 swap anyhow) and painting it is much cheaper than buying a tach and a speedo. Sometimes ALMOST is just as good and much less $$$.

You are right, because in the end it all comes down to what works for the guy that drives the rig every day.:)

5 weeks at the shop having AC lines mad Ughhhhhhh.... The guy's daughter got flesh eating bacteria from tainted instruments at the hospital. Scary crap. He was out of service for 3 weeks, then a couple weeks for tracking down hose ends. I will be exploring different options for AC hoses. Vehicle has been picked up and passed NC state inspection yesterday.

Outstanding!

I'm about to do exactly this project, and I'm very curious about how you positioned the engine. My last effort at engine swapping involved some revisions as the project went forward, and this time I need to get it right on the first try. Did the motor mounts for the 5.3 go in about the same spot as the 3FE mounts?

Did you get a 5.3/4L60E together from the same donor? What year transmission did you use? My understanding is that post 97 4L60E is slightly shorter but the AA adapter kit to the split case evens them up so that it doesn't matter. Did you run a DBW? Throttle cable?

Did you do a vac-to-manual 4WD shift selector conversion?

Hey Doc, long time since I've seen your SN.

I cut the OEM motor mounts off at the frame with no real regard as to where the new motor mounts would go as it really did not matter. I also plated the frame with 3/16" at the location of the new motor mounts. I built my own motor mounts.

Motor and trans came from separate vehicles, trans is a 2WD model. Trans is an 03 model

I used throttle cable. I used the OEM Toyota cable attached to a modified bracket on the motor, works well.

This swap retained the VAC setup per owners wishes. I am working on the same swap in an 80 now and will be using a split case with twin sticks on this one. I am not a fan of the VAC system, too many parts to fail. I prefer a stick and the KISS method.

So. . . just dropping in to say that this is my truck and Stan really kicked some ass on the swap. It's running like a monster and is currently at the paint shop to get a little prettier. Also got a new OME lift and suspension and some nice accessories along the way. I'll post some pics in a new thread when it's done.

Highly recommend my man Stan and HFS. Justin

Glad that you are happy with the truck Justin. I look forward to seeing the new paint and stance. Post pics in this thread.

Thanks man. Probably not to everyone's taste, but I think it rocks. It seems like there are differing manifestations of Fashion Green depending on where you look, but this is what I wanted...
