How about the engine and transmission ECUs? What sort of trickery did you have to do?

The engine and trans run on the same ECU. No trickery at all. I sent the ECU and harness out. The wiring harness was trimmed down to only what is required and the ECU was programmed to the specifications I required. It'll be here until late next week if you care to check it out Rick, you are always welcome.

Just wishing we had the dinero at the time we originally did the engine swap to put a 4L60E behind our Vortec in the Gr. Wagoneer. We're still running the TF727. We already sent the ECU out for reprogramming when we first installed the engine and they trimmed ours down too, so no trans signal left on it.

You can always have the harness re built to incorporate the trans Rick. Let me know if the time comes and I'll be glad to help you out.

A few more photos from different angles.

The terminal block to the left of the windshield wiper access cover allows the harness to be removed from the vehicle without cutting any wires. All hoses and wiring done for the swap is designed to allow ease of maintenance down the road. All relays and contact points are labeled.

very clean... details on air filter housing and top 90degree elbow? Is part of that from an fj80?

so bad ass!

Thank you, hard to keep your foot out of it for sure.

That is the stock 62 air filter and housing with the OEM 90 cut off. Spectre rubber 90. The OEM air filters are huge with all kinds of surface area, I see no need to go with some over priced pretty colored after market filter that will just clog sooner

Saw this rig in person. Absolutely awesome work. Build quality is top knotch and the truck sounds amazing.

Feel free to shoot me a PM with any questions, I may even know the answer :)

The choice between a Vortec swap and a diesel was cut and dried. I know that for a great many a diesel is the holly grail, it just happens not to be a flavor of Kool Aid I have found a taste for yet. I am certainly not saying a diesel conversion is a bad thing, just not my thing.

There are a few pretty solid reasons I believe that a Vortec conversion is the most practical. First of all they have a proven track record among fleet vehicles and private vehicles across this country, often seeing 300-500K miles with just routine service. A huge factor that stands behind those kind of numbers is that you can go into about any auto store and get every part required to build one from the ground up. If it is not on the shelf they can have it the next day. Add to that, there is a mechanic that can work on it in practically every town you drive through and you have a platform that will take you and your rig well into the next decade if you take care of it. In my view, it is the perfect mate to the trucks we all love and hold dear.

Please use Private Message. I just received a profile message, never knew they existed. There were messages on there dating back to 2009. Who knew?

nice work stan ...so.....what kind of mileage are you getting?

Thanks Shaun, I really have no idea as I have not checked. I can tell you that in the beginning it will not be good. It is impossible to keep your foot out of it. Double the power just has an effect on you that you can not help but continue to use, over and over.

Well, the test drive phase is about over all that is left is the AC hoses and it will be ready to go home to it's owner. :( I traced down a parasitic current that was back feeding the ignition circuit to the aftermarket radio. This current in the Ignition circuit drove me nuts as it was just enough to keep the relay that turns on ignition power to the motor on. So when you turned the truck off with the key it just kept running. DAMN!!! I contacted the owner and he told me that the truck would have a dead battery if he let it sit for more than a couple days. I added a switch in line to the ignition feed from the truck to the motors ignition supply relay. Consider it a low brow security system. Owner wanted the radio left in.

For 90 degree bend air hoses, check out intakehoses.com. They may have something that could fit your application. For a tach, I used an Auto Gage 2306 6k tach. I took it apart and painted the yellow areas orange. It damn near matches my stock FJ60 dash...

Intake and gauges are done, no issues. Why not just buy a matching speedo if matching is that important, better than painting up a new gauge to almost match.
