I'm new to this forum. I have a 1985 Toyota 4x4 with a 22rengine last night I was driving about 55 in 5 th gear when I started losing speed. So I pulled over and noticed I had no oil on the dip stick but was showing oil pressure. Well I heard a slight burning before it happened so I pulled over and it made a slight knock. So this morning it wouldn't start after I added oil to it. Any ideas on what it could be could it be the oil pomp or sometjkng more serious like a engine. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks also motor has 165000 miles on it.

When you say it wouldn't start, does it turn over? If you lost oil and the engine is seized, it is time for a new engine...

It will try and start but it won't turn over. Like a starter issue. So I tried to push start it to no avail. So now I'm hoping it's not a engine someone said could be oil pump not letting it get oil but would tht cause it not to crank.

It won't turn over or it won't catch?

If the motor won't spin at all, that's a very bad sign...

It will spin just won't catch. Like the spark plugs not igniting. I just hope it not the engine. I was thinking timing chain possibly or something like that. I'm not good at figuring the problems out just repairing them.

You can pull the valve cover to check the timing chain.

The fact that it spins means you didn't seize the engine. But still possible that damage was done due to low oil.

You'll see the top end of it. If it is broken, there is some chance you won't see it on the sprocket or there will be excessive slop in it. If it is there and looks ok, have someone bump the starter to see if the chain turns.

It does seem odd that a low oil condition would keep things from starting, though.

I'll go out on a limb. Check your fuel pump. There is a two wire test connector on the drivers side fender. Short it then walk back to the tank and see if you hear the pump, and fuel returning.

Thanks for all the responses. I'm located in south Mississippi. I'm going to check the timing tomorrow as a few people told me that. I hope that's all it is. Didn't get a chance today cause of weather.

Sort of hard to check the timing without it running...

Start at the basics - fuel and spark - work from there.
